OrkahnArgos
I've been getting back into Fallout 3 for another playthrough this time heavily modded. I have been watching numerous tutorials and using FO3Edit, BOSS, and Nexus Mod Manager, on top of installing mods manually. One serious recurring problem I've been having recently however is that when I speak to an NPC of any kind, upon hearing their intro dialogue (for example Moira Brown's series of introduction dialogues prior to engaging in conversation "Don't mind the smoke...", etc.) my game freezes and shuts down before the player dialogue menu opens up. In incidental dialogue I was able to use the console command "closeallmenus" to avoid this error and for a while the problem was fixed but now it is back again and makes the game virtually unplayable as any quest dialogue or exchanges with merchants is impossible. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, thank you. Purr4me
The best solution for you to track down the instance is if it is repeatable, only if. Random instances ? we can't help you. USE any editor fo3edit, load all programs, locate the NPC of your choice of instance, use the reference tab at the bottom on the right windows, click that, look up through the mess of dialog that points to close to what your looking for, double click that, is that it? if it is, look on the left page, what high lit? click that, now look at the right page across the top...how many mods touch that line of code? look for something NOT vanilla, that will be the cause. in fallout 3, it only take 3 such lines to break the whole game. just 3 (INFO) lines, that's it. good luck.kitty. OrkahnArgos
In FO3Edit the problem actually lies in the dialogue section of FWE's main file esp. It's incompatibility for some reason is highlighting in some of the vanilla DLC, my RobCo Certified Files, The Alton, IL addon, the Unnoffical FO3 Patch, CompanionCore, FWE Alt Travel, and finally Elgar's Extra Random Encounters. All errors are located in the PNAM Priority section, all with different numbers. Am I to assume this is load order or simply an incompatibility of the mods themselves. There are a few mods here I have no problem removing (CompanionCore, RobCo Certified) but the fact that many of these are additional content I was hoping for in my playthrough is there any solution without removing them or half of the vanilla DLC? I'm sorry to burden you with this problem but if there is an easy fix now that I am at the root of the problem I would be grateful for it. Thank you again. (My guess of a solution is to create uniformity with the priority or increase the priority of this greeting to supersede all others. They range from 55 to upwards of 100) If right or wrong assistance with a course of action is greatly appreciated. rickerhk
A red conflict does not necessarily mean incompatible. It just means more than one plugin changes the same record. Seems like every DLC that came out changes the GREETING priority. This is not why you are crashing when entering dialog.I've seen two things cause dialog crashing - corrupted sound files mainly. Another time it was a modded armor on the NPC that I was trying to talk to - some kind of weird head animations in the NIF. Ripping that section out fixed it. But it sounds like you should start with reinstalling your sound/voice BSA files.

If so how would I go about reinstalling them besides doing a copy/paste into the data folder upon getting their location? Also, could I do a partial reinstall then load a backup of all my previous installation data including mods? I've made a secondary folder for a copy of my current installation data already albeit the voices.bsa. If I could reinstall the game then simply copy all the previous mod esps and esms by placing the backup of the previous install that would make my life a helluva lot easier. It seems like I've been asking a lot of you guys and I know its shitty not to figure this out on my own but with all the effort I've put into a solid install so far, getting the best possible way of solving these problems from people with considerable experience seems like the best route.
