Teammates in vanilla Oblivion?

I rarely use companion and other such mods, mainly because with my crippled comp (OS Invalid) I try to compensate for low fps, but I use Demon mod so a good one for that apparently is Dremora Companion (search under name and u shud find) (Demon mod just search Chingari or Chingari Demon Race) Demon Race is another fps hitter. RTT (Ruined Tail's Tale) did something I always wanted for partner npcs which is this mod: crouch when you crouch, dont always engage in battle and not complain when you steal things (I dont know if other mods do this but RTT does) I like 1st Alchemist Companion Julianne (or something like that) because it supposedly gives you tons of new alchemical items. I've only really played RTT though.

Well, like I said in my first and second posts, I'm talking about vanilla oblivion on the XBOX 360, wherein you cannot get mods.

Here are 3 comnpanions that dont "stall" the main quest, but they need a completion of a side-quest-line:Adoring fan, well known, from completing the arena side quest line,Any mage aprentice from the mage guild quest line.If you are planning on using this i reccomend you get a mod for upgrading theyre armor or get another companion to help them suriveve(yes to help they are weak in health but if protected they can proove a valuable ally). The last companion youy could try is ANY of the knights of the nine, wich ,ofcourse, you can earn by completing the "Knights of the nine" quest line, wich isnt long at all!

That sounds interesting, I'll have to go look up how to do the Knights of the Nine quest.

If your gona do that, there is somehting important! If te marker is glitched it will be showing you that the profet it somewhere inside the cityy walls(o_O),but you should search for him near the old haunted house!(in anvil)..you wil recodnise him easaly,he is the idiot shouting jiberish at people xD.

Also i can give you a list of wayhshrines wich are close to citys or other markers that are easly found!

Guys, he just means Vanilla Oblivion and how no one has mentioned some of these amazes me.

Yes there are many people like that in oblivion but they're usually associated with a guild that you need to complete before you have access to them.

The "companion like" people you can get are:

- Adoring Fan (Imperial City Arena)

- Apprentice Mages (Mage's guild)

- Murderers (Dark Brotherhood)

- Knights (Knights of the Nine expansion)

- Knights Of The Horn (Battlehorn Castle Official Plugin)

- Skinned Hell Hound (Shivering Isles expansion)

Those are the ones I remember off the top of my head, anyone know if the Fighters guild or Thieves guild has followers like that? I can't recall off the top of my head.

Adoring Fan is mostly useless, you get him when you become Grand Champion.

Knights of the Nine are available to use and abuse when you finish the plot for it.

Battlehorn Castle is the House plugin from Bethesda meant for warrior type players, when you purchase all the castle upgrades the Knights patrolling inside and outside are available for use.

Skinned Hell Hound is a gift when completing a quest in one of the Major Cities of Shivering Isles, it's basically a creepy Undead dog that follows you around, they're a common enemy in Shivering Isles.

Personally, I really like the Vanilla companions, the only thing they lack is the ability to level with the player and an accessible inventory. I'm to lazy to deal with things as complicated as OBSE just to access another character's inventory.

I'd like to see how Bethesda would go about it.

If I forgot to mention any other followers then oh well haha (I purposely didn't mention things like Jemane brothers for the obvious fact they aren't followers.

Adoring Fan is mostly useless, you get him when you become Grand Champion.

Mostly useless? He does nothing at all except provide you with some butt kissing.

He's even got a little sword or dagger but he'll never use it, not even for a mudcrab.

But if you modify him then he's awesome (in my opinion) main one is give him 100 confidence.

(yes I know you can't mod the XBOX)

he is a useful decoy just like the mages guild aprentice that runs into combat and gets killed the first few hits or runs away, stealing the enemy, but since the enemy has detected you,it is counted as you are in combat and he can come back to you in any moment!so its better to use mele companions with good armor-like the knights of the nine.

Out of the above mentioned, the skinned hell hound was a useful companion for ages, till he was killed by a guard.

The Knights of the nine are probably my favorite companions, some carry both a bow and a sword which is very useful.

I don't see why they couldn't just put in an actual companion system, like they did later with Fallout 3. In Fallout 3, you get the dog and one extra companion, although you have to get really lucky if you want to just FIND these companions, I had to look up where to get them. Then once you have them, you can give them basic follow me/stay here commands and mess with their inventories. If the dog dies, you're allowed to get TWO human companions, which I think is cooler.

They did add a companion system!Mages guild aprentices, adoring fan and the knights of the nine all have simple follow, stay and return to your dutys(or fukc off for adoring fan :P) commands! All you have to do is eanr them!

You can't control their inventories and you have to go way out of your way to get them. Companions in Fallout 3 make you go out of your way, too, but they're well-established as the official companions of the game and it's easy to look them up.

In Oblivion it would be a lot more fun to start your epic adventure with a party instead of being by yourself nearly the entire game, having to get lucky with the finding of followers that don't die in two hits like the guys from Battlehorn Castle. Mods fix this, but the game should have originally allowed companions from the beginning anyway.
