Load times increase over time...

This has been a long standing issue since I think v1.03 for various users. After around 20 to 40 minutes anything that requires loading such as opening the inventory, camera angle changes during a cinematic moment/conversation etc. will incur momentary pauses while loading in data. Transitioning from one area to another will also start taking dramatically longer to complete due to load times becoming more extensive/longer lasting.

Temporary reprieve of this ailment is accomplished by saving your progress, quitting to the desktop then loading the game up again and loading your save file. Doing this every 20 to 40 minutes is not an ideal way to play this game.

Was any, more permanent resolution to this issue found?

I have a feeling it's caused by running it on a computer with more then 2 cores/CPU's and the only solution is to limit it via adjusting the process affinity setting in Windows while the game is running (At least for Steam users). More permanent implementations of this solution that don't require me to apply the setting every single time I play won't work as they modify the games EXE file and there is some Steam DRM bulls*** that stops the game from launching if the EXE file has been tampered with.

Edit: Happens with and without mods of any kind installed. I've also confirmed that removing all but the Shale Golem DLC doesn't resolve it too. There was a massive sticky thread on the issue after v1.03 was released (On the Bioware forum) and Bioware typically did nothing it seems :/

What graphics card do you have? More specifically, what version of DirectX can it run?

Asking because this issue was so bad for players with DX-10/10.1 cards (I was one) that BioWare made some fixes to address it.

If you're in this category, the 1.05 patch may help. It did for me.

Good Luck!

NOTE: I've heard that players with the Steam install aren't getting this update, and that if they apply it manually Steam thinks the executable isn't the right one and rolls-back the change. Can't do anything about that, but that's just one reason I don't use Steam. Recommend ditching the Steam install and getting the EA/Origin download instead. No charge for registered game owners!

(I also found that the LAA hak (which allows the game to use more than 2GB... up to the 32-bit program max of "4GB-minus-the-OS-requirements") helped after the 1.03 fiasco. But the same note about Steam rolling-back the change applies to this as well.)

System specifications are now in my signature, I am running the Steam version of the game and the file properties of the games executable file states it is v1.05 and so does the DAOriginsConfig.exe. The 4GB Patcher and the ImageCFG program both don't work as they modify the EXE file causing Steam to throw up this error message whenever I attempt to run the game after applying either or both of them.

It can possibly work (Untested) if operated via Origin, but then you face these issues which I have indeed encountered which is why I'm now using the Steam version. http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/315/index/17101822/

Which is why I don't use Steam! I've had issues with EA/Origin, but at least I could actually play my games.

Quick question: Does the original retail release make use of either Steam or Origin or is it a wholly stand alone product? I do have an original retail copy of the game from when the game was reasonably new. I might just install the game from Disc instead of using a copy from either service (I already know this doesn't resolve the issue described in my original post, but it should allow the work-arounds to work).

I just realized the game patches are simply self extracting ZIP files, so I just opened the v1.05 patch from the Bioware website and copied the EXE from there in to my install folder and BAM, can now use the 4GB Patch and ImageCFG, but I need the disc to play now because of fffff disc check.

I do have the disc, just kinda minor inconvenience.
