I need my animations, plz help (FNIS)

The latest version on Nexus of FNIS, MO2 says the <data> is packaged incorrectly and does not recognize it. I can tell FNIS is not reading my animation dls. I've tried uninstalling/re-installing from Nexus twice. Even tried manual dl/install. Still not reading my animations. I put the manual install into my Special Edition Folder (Data). Was that not the place to put it? I am new to using MO2. But Vortex wasn't doing a great job either...but it was working for the most part.

Edit: Why is MO2 saying that the Nexus Mod for FNIS is not packaged correctly? FNIS is not working for me. How do I fix that? What Folder should FNIS be in anyway?

Looks like the executable resides in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Data\tools\GenerateFNIS_for_Users" on my system.

And its behavior files are in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\Data"

Yup.... that is where they are. So, why isn't it working? I have no "reading" of installed animations when I run FNIS. It's suppose to work if I use "create a desktop shortcut", right? Or does it have to be included within MO2 as a tool?

IDK.... I just answered your question about location.

Anyway... It's been a long time since I last installed FNIS. My memory is short but as I recall, upon installation, FNISforusers.exe has to be run once outside the mod manager environment, to establish a baseline data set. It is (afaik, or as far as I remember anyway) the point at which the necessary program pathing (for skyrim) is set as well.

Following the FNIS setup (ie running it once outside the manager), your mod manager should be able to use it "normally"

That is my recollection also. That was/is the way I always did it. Seems things changed though since AE. I'll keep experimenting. I just experienced another "never has happened b4" event. So, this playthru is probably gonna b a bust also. Just outside Markarth stable on the road ....take a left...where Ri'Saad sometimes sets up camp. As I approached him...I was underwater (sounds of being underwater also playing) and I was swimming trying to get to him. I did get to him and got the Saints/Seducers Quests. I continued left and eventually came out of the water. That river is to my right...not on the road. Freaking wonderful... I had to chuckle abit in all honesty. I'll go back over that way and see if it happens again. Thank you.

The area is dry for me... sounds like one of your mods is injecting water where there is none. I have a couple of location modifiers installed that have little glitches like that.

As to FNIS, I honestly don't know jack about the peculiarities of 1.6x and its support matrix. I'd recommend a widenet search. try to formulate it something like

"skyrim special edition 1.6x ae fnis problem install setup" and modify that if it doesn't spit out useful, related results, until it does.

PS, since (afaik?) you had a previous version installed?, you may have to reset that location info in some support file before the new one will setup properly, idk. like I said, check via a widenet, or check in FNIS setup threads. I'm almost sure others have experienced similar issues during the "conversion"

Oh, and if you intend any NSFW stuff, consider installing the expanded version of FNIS (maybe still called FNIS XXL or something) to expand the animation slots (there's another mod on that too just can't think of it) . Also don't recall if it's an overwrite situation or replacement.

- I recall installing a newer version of creature framework a while back, and it was a total mindfk process of resetting this and doing that and jumping through this and that hoop until it settled in (no offense to the authors. it's all my ignorance)

Fortunately for Ri'saad and me ... lol...we r no longer underwater! Have no idea why that happened at all. Just hope it doesn't happen again. As to FNIS, I did have a previous version installed but I typically uninstall all related files b4 I install another version. Perhaps though, I didn't do that this time. This is an area I seldom venture into but I can search. I tried AP just to see and the characters just stand there. Sounds r there and the strip but nothing else. I asked on the AP site what gives with that. Like I said previously, when I run FNIS I don't see AP being read. I had Sex Lab installed also and FNIS didn't read that either and the MCM never came up. Shrugs.... Much appreciate the suggestions.

sorry I don't recognize the "AP" reference. If important, you'll have to elaborate.

As far as water, glad to hear it "magically" self-resolved. It happens sometimes. I was walking around skyrim the other night buried almost up to my knees. Fast Travel wouldn't resolve it, sleeping wouldn't' resolve it fiddling with high heels adjustments in lazy edit wouldn't fix it. Finally, in frustration, I made a save, exited the game, checked in fallrim tools to make sure it was ok (it had no errors to fix), then reloaded the game and game save and my feet were back on the ground. Jes downright magerkal, I tells ya. Magerkal.

Also, just fyi... "water planes" extend beyond the limits of their rivers, lakes, and ponds but are visibly hidden by topographic features. (sometime when you're bored, try using TCL and then walking below the ground level (ie, walking down dozens of feet below... very revealing...). Further, the water/air" transitional trigger plane is (afaik) a plane unto itself that is *supposed to be contiguous with the visible water layer, but can get decoupled and moved/shifted in the Z-axis (up down) by "this or that thing..." (overwrite, some glitch, etc), resulting sometimes in a static displacement of the plane (was the case for a long time with a creek that's part of the Half-moon Mill revamping mod before I got that one ironed out, where I'd enter it and find myself swimming 3 feet (~1 meter) in the air), sometimes just a transient relocation (as in your case?), whatever the cause.

Woe...I have had to (on occasion) use TCL to get to bandits underneath Lakeview Manor. The AP reference is Animated Prostitution. No reply on that mod's page yet. I did a web search and found something called "STEP". Have u used that b4? It does require a new game playthru however. If I need to start over, I usually uninstall everything that has "Skyrim" in it. I just keep typing in Skyrim in the left-side search box till nothing shows up that involves Skyrim. Probably not a good idea, huh? How do u start all over? It's more difficult now cuz of AE with trying to start a game with no mods installed, what with Address Library and other mods needing to be instaled to make AE run. Right, or no?

"STEP" is a community project that aims to provide "step by step" (hence the name) guides to modding various games, among them Skyrim SE. If you follow this guide, you'll get very thorough explanations on everything. If you follow them, you get a tested and stable modded game. Since you seem to be rather new to modding (no offense!), using STEP might be a good idea. Once you got your first larger mod list set up and running, it's probably time to leave guides like "STEP" behind and go your own way - and make your own "why the .... does my game crash?!" experiences..

Regarding AE: It's basically still Skyrim SE with some changes to the game engine. It doesn't need anything to run. You can always do a fresh install of Skyrim AE and play without mods. SKSE and Address Library are requirements for many more complex mods, among them also very basic stuff like "SkyUI". They are NOT required just to play "Vanilla" Skyrim AE though.

Regarding animations: TBH, I've been a Vortex user almost since its beta phase. So i'm not really familiar with MO 2 and its oddities. AFAIK, FNIS and MO 2 are a bit difficult to get to work together. At least some time ago, people recommended running FNIS outside of Vortex. Not sure if this is still the case. As I said: For MO 2 I can't offer much help.
