I uninstalled boss and reinstalled it and i have the same problem. Also, I ran the boss gui exe and it says skyrim is not detected. Guess I found the problem. Any ideas on what I can do? Start BOSSGUI: Select "Active Game" menu and make sure it is Skyrim. Select Edit menu, then Settings, then Debugging. Set Output Verbosity to 3 and check the Log Debug Output box. This will put a debug file in the BOSS directory. Click the OK button and on the main BOSSGUI window check the Perform Trial Run box under Run Options. Run BOSS and look at the BOSSdebuglog.txt file in the main BOSS directory. Sounds like a Skyrim registry entry is missing/bad. Hive Key locations vary with OS so its hard to say which key might be bad, the BOSSdebuglog.txt might help. The debug log will give you an idea where BOSS is trying to find Skyrim. You can use regedit (CAREFUL! Back up your registry BEFORE making ANY key changes!!!) to search for "Skyrim" and see if any key data gives an erroneous location. Actually running Skyrim from the launcher "may" update the registry entries. You should also make sure that the game cache is verified via Steam; that MAY, or may not, update registry entries if cache file errors are found and fixed. There is no such menu in my BOSSGUI, it's just a list of games, there are no menus at all.
Lord Garon Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 ^^ The Edit menu is just to the left of Active Game. Can you select Skyrim in the Active Game dropdown?
Integrater Posted September 24, 2013 Author Posted September 24, 2013 You must be talking about a different gui, here's what mine looks like.
Lord Garon Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Okay; that is not the main screen. I assume you have none of the other games. I would run Steam and verify local game cache. Then, in case this is a registry issue, run Skyrim FROM Steam. This will force the default skyrim launcher to run. Regardless of your mods state, select Play from the launcher and Continue for just a second, then quit to desktop. We are trying to get the launcher to update Skyrim registry settings so that BOSSGUI can find (detect) Skyrim again. Try to run BOSSGUI again and see if it finds Skyrim.
Integrater Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 You're right, I only have Skyrim. Strange, one file constantly fails to verify, steam must be failing to re-download it. I did it three times, and the file fails every time. I then ran Skyrim from steam as you said. In the boss gui, it now detects Skyrim, but my load order still doesn't change...
Lord Garon Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 (edited) Okay, making some progress. Yeah, the Verify Local Game cache usually says one file was not verified and that it will be obtained. I've had that happen since I installed Skyrim when it first came out. Steam...sheesh. Usually, not sorting load order is a Windows file permission or UAC issue, not a Wrye Bash or BOSS issue, per se. My install (Win 7 64bit) sorted itself out after setting fille properties on BOSS.exe, BOSS GUI.exe, and Wrye Bash.exe. 1. Go to your Wrye Bash directory [steam/steamapps/common/skyrim/Mopy] and right-click on Wrye Bash.exe. Select Properties->Compatibility and select (tick) "Run this program as an Administrator". Click Apply then Okay. 2. Go to wherever you installed BOSS and do the same for BOSS.exe and BOSS GUI.exe. Now, let's see if we can set some BOSS GUI options. 3. Fire up Wrye Bash. Right-click on the bottom toolbar BOSS icon. Make sure that lock disable is ticked and select Launch Boss GUI. Select Skyrim if it asks. Now you should get the BOSSGUI screen I talked about earlier. Click the Edit menu -> Settings -> Debugging, Set Debug Output Verbosity to 3 and tick Log Debug Output. Click Okay. Finally, click the Run BOSS button. The BOSS log should pop up in a browser (if default html log output is selected). Leave it up and go back to Wrye Bash. Click on the Mods tab and see if the load order is the same as the BOSS log in the browser. EDIT: spelling errors Edited September 25, 2013 by Lord Garon
Integrater Posted September 25, 2013 Author Posted September 25, 2013 Well, I don't have the GUI you mentioned, however BOSS is now sorting my load order :) Thanks. Should I leave the bashed patch where BOSS puts it which is 17th from the end or move to the very end?
Lord Garon Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 (edited) Glad its working. The Bash readme says to leave the bashed patch last in the load order. I've never had BOSS put it anywhere else, but I only have about 50 well known mods. There is an "Unrecognized Plugin" part of the BOSS log for mods which are not sorted automatically (not on the BOSS masterlist); they will wind up at the bottom of the load order. I suspect you have some "Unrecognized plugins" and they must be ordered manually. I would put the bashed patch last, in any case, unless you KNOW (from a mod readme or description) a mod should be last. PS: You may not have the latest version of BOSS installed if your BOSS GUI doesn't display the options I talked about. There is no desperate reason to upgrade that I am aware of (sorting will still work), just that you can select some options when BOSS GUI runs. Just wanted to give you a heads up so you can check it out. If its not broke, don't fix it. Edited September 26, 2013 by Lord Garon
Integrater Posted September 26, 2013 Author Posted September 26, 2013 I have version 2.1.1. I just google for it and went to what I thought was the official site. Has it been updated in the last couple of weeks?

I thought you might have had an older version since our BOSS GUI screens are different. No worries, then. Have fun bashing up your mods.
