Someone comes along with an original idea and they post it on the forums.

 

"I think I'll make a coke bottle that you can ride like a horse."

 

They begin modeling the coke bottle. Along comes another modder and they read the thread, they like the idea. They start moddeling their own coke bottle. The second modder contacts friends who have years of combined modding experience. One of the friends has already put dozens of ride able items in the game already. Together this "team" produces a mod with a ride able coke bottle and the modder who first thought up the idea is still learning to get the mesh right. It happens all the time, on the Nexus and any other forum you post an idea on. I used to wonder why so many projects were kept secret from anyone not on the team. After seeing several of my ideas created by modders with more experience than I have, I've learned to keep my ideas to myself.

 

Everyone here on the Nexus knows that I've been here for over a year and that I've spent the last six months working on a Pellucidar mod. I'm learning much of what I need to know as I go along. I fully expect to see a finished Pellucidar mod before I finish mine, it's just the way things are. You can't own an idea and if you post that idea, you might as well be giving it away.

I would concur, with one caveat. The importance is not who did what, or who came up with the idea, but rather how well that idea was accomplished. Stealing ideas is easy, making them better than what was envisioned is the hard part. When they fail, you simply do it better. If they do it better, you should be willing to put forth even more effort to outdo them, or accept their work as the better incarnation of that idea. In both cases, the idea is done, and has been given the justice that it is worthy of. The person who came up with it doesn't matter, the person who does it first doesn't count, it's the person who does it best that counts. After all, we still consider Hemingway a good author, and half his stories are borrowed from others. We still watch Disney, dread Shakespeare, and ignore the Brothers Grim.

Dark0ne, the issue wasn't resolved satisfactorily. Yes, the image was changed, but that didn't stop the idiot who copied my work from insulting me through PM. It was the fact that Buddha said 'I'm on the fence, you two sort it out' about a THEFT that really upset me. And the image is STILL too close to my own! He's just changed the colour of the guy flipping the bird! Nothing has really changed.

As my article said, I'm not as mentally-equipped as most to deal with issues like that. I'm not going to get into that right now, though.

And I said that the one instance of moderating was lazy, not all the time.

 

exanimis, I never talked about it publicly. It was discussed between myself and a few acquaintances on Xfire. I explained it in excruciatingly great detail, and the mod uploaded is EXACTLY THE BLOODY SAME.

 

You people can mince my words up all you like; in the end, all you're doing is failing to understand what I've said so bluntly. For instance, I say 'I've never seen such lazy moderating' and you automatically assume I mean ALL instances of moderating on this website, when I was, in fact, only referring to this one time!

Desuchan, I respect you. You're a modder, something I'm completely unskilled at that (at least until now) you have chosen to release and share with the public who can find this site and post on it, and your mods make many people happy because their experiences with the game you have modded for is something that they enjoy. You are very skilled, creative, and I personally believe that you are one of the best modders on the site.

 

Unfortunately, your angry rant and saying that you are leaving is something that I believe is your choice, and I won't attempt to change that. However, hear me out before you do.

 

Whether or not you have the mental stamina to withstand a barrage of insults, you strike me as an intelligent, if currently angry, person. If Buddah's response was unsatisfactory, why did you not contact Dark0ne? or another Moderator? different people would have different responses to a given situation, and one of them might have been something you would have preferred. On top of this, this is exactly what Buddah told you to do if problems continued.

 

from the looks of things and even the way this thread has bent, we are trying to calm you down - you are acting childish. please calm down and right a response that is well thought out and calm.

 

I'm not saying the person you refer to as a thief is in the right, but you have to respect that Buddah gave you the control over the situation if you wanted to do something about it.

Eshenaleros, I am calm, if not half asleep XP To be fair, I have been carefully thinking out my responses; I'm not angry at all, either. Just somewhat put off.

 

I personally feel that in my case, I'd have preferred Buddha to take action, not put the responsibility in my hands. I was not prepared to do so because I would've done something stupid and end up banned. I may not be uploading my mods here, but I still want my account so I can download! It's for that reason that I didn't contact Dark0ne. I'd prefer to walk away unscathed than start something. I mean, what's been said in this thread... I wish it hadn't escalated to this!

 

While I again resent being called 'childish', I respect your comment and thank you for your insight.

I am writing you both and not taking sides in this matter.

 

If this was an issue of using intellectual property [game assets] of another it would be easy to determining which was first to create it. Image interpretation and intent are not as easily defined, are they identical, no. They are alike in style but different in content and structure, each placed in the proper location to draw the eye, just as an artist will use a like point in composing his painting or photo....this is an area the eye naturally gravitates to.

 

So I will ask that you try and sort this out between yourselves and make a compromise that both of you can live with.

 

We are all adults here, so please do try and work this out. I expect each to bend a little, conducting yourselves with politeness and mutual respect.

 

I have known each of you too long and admire your efforts to enhance the game play for the game. Though I seldom post other than officially, I do read a lot and have enjoyed both of your contributions to the community.

 

If you are unable to come to a equitable solution (I do so hope you can) than I am going to ask you to contact Dark0ne for a determination.

Since I wrote it and it is ambiguous as to who was involved I can share it.

 

How was I lazy? Was I not respectful to each? You would have me choose one over another, no sorry this wasn't a site issue, merely a similar way of presenting a screen shot.

 

The other party changed his presentation, and responded within a short period of time.

 

You did not even acknowledge my pm so I considered the matter closed. I have had no other communications from you since. Now you are telling everybody that someone stole your idea....first I have heard of it, no reports, no pm's.

 

Make me out the bad guy it matters not to me one way or the other.

 

I am not a mediator for disputes and will not judge any mod or man/woman, but I will hold you responsible for your actions. This is my way, I have very rarely shared my opinions openly. I have not rated a mod in I don't know how long, when I do post my opinion on something it is because it has made a deep impression on me. Trust me I am not easily or often impressed.

 

The lazy part is the dig, I have spent several thousand hours on this site, downloaded every thing that was uploaded that remained on the site at least 48 hours. Personally restored over 1,000 files that were lost/corrupt with the demise of TesSource and the birth of TesNexus. Sent files to their creators when they had pulled them from the site and then lost them. We haven't even gotten to the actual moderating of the site either, you have no clue what I do here or in the community. But if you want to call me lazy, go for it.....again it matters not to me one way or another.

 

And my pay for this, is an occasional "Thanks", I ask and expect nothing more. I don't need to be worshiped or have my work put on a pedestal and what others think of me matters not.

 

You have pulled all you work from the site, and your own words say you are only here for the clicks on your dragon and eggs.

 

If and when you reach my age, I hope you find contentment and acceptance of yourself as a person, the one you are looking for now but have yet to find.

You're more than entitled to your opinion, good sir. However, I am here to say that I no longer care about it and do not wish to continue discussing it. I have said what I want to say, and whether or not you agree with it is up to you.

 

I do not need to wait until I reach your age to 'find contentment and acceptance of yourself as a person'; by walking away, I am sure I've made it clear that I already have. I believe that I am better off not uploading my work to a site filled will people who do not appreciate the work that goes into these mods, or 'adults' who not only call me 'childish' but prove, in a roundabout way, that I am more adult than them for simply walking away from the issue instead of continuing to whinge about it because you cannot accept my opinion. Is this not a forum where free speech is allowed? Because if I cannot voice my opinion without people spouting nonsense about it and calling me 'childish' and 'incorrect', then there's something wrong with you, not me.

 

For what it's worth, my saying "I'm only here for the clicks" was a joke. As I said, I still come here to download mods, and will offer help to people who need it. I just refuse to upload my mods here.
