Willowran
Title says it all. I bought this game a week ago and i can barely play it because easily 90% of my troops become permanently wounded if they get shot in combat. I have yet to find a fix. Am willing to donate if someone DOES manage to fix it.
Krazyguy75
Without knowing why the bug occurs, it is hard to fix. Without replicating it, there's really not much we can do. A couple questions to help me out: 1. I assume you tried verifying the cache?2. By permanently wounded, what specifically do you mean?3. What health level does it occur at?4. What does the recovery time say? If all else fails, try reinstalling.
Willowran
Without knowing why the bug occurs, it is hard to fix. Without replicating it, there's really not much we can do. A couple questions to help me out: 1. I assume you tried verifying the cache?2. By permanently wounded, what specifically do you mean?3. What health level does it occur at?4. What does the recovery time say? If all else fails, try reinstalling. 1: I have no idea what the "cache" is.2/4: By permanently wounded: Usually when a unit is wounded, beside their name it wil lsay "wounded for 'x' days". What is happening is that after the "x" days, they do not return to the field. Instead, beside their name it just says "wounded". http://imageshack.us/a/img59/5216/jpfr.jpg 3: It occurs at all levels, random times, inconsistently. I deleted all of my old saves and have yet to come across the bug in my newest game, however in my original game the bug did not really become an issue until i assaulted the first enemy alien base, at which point it completely crippled me. I tried a new game, and of the first five people to be wounded, not a single returned to the field (pictured above). I have no idea why this happens. I've been browsing around various forums and sites, and so far you're the first person to respond. Apparently it is a fairly common bug- if you google it you can see case upon case of it. It is also listed amongst the list of bugs in the stickied bug thread here on the nexus X-Com subforum. Thus far the only person i have seen to start attempting to fix it said this: I've been researching this for a number of hours, and no there appears to be no known way to fix this or work around it. Hard to believe they have not bothered patching this up as it's a serious problem that affects many people and has been reported repeatedly. I was hoping to hex edit the save file around it, and worked on that extensively, but have had no luck so far. I know where & how the "hours wounded" is stored, but not the current status. They appear to be separate, as the soldier remains wounded even after the hours decrement to zero. The main problem is that the save files are compressed and CRC'ed. There is a compressor/decompresor utility available (fairchild @ 360haven), but the recompressed save isn't recognized as valid by the game, probably because it uses a CRC check that fails as he appears to simply copy it over from the original save. Presumably it works for the Xbox, but not on the PC. Somebody has recently posted python code on how to do the CRC & where it's stored, and I have that running, but can't get the CRC to match what the game is using. The CRC algorithm they use is presumably non-standard. I'm in contact with that poster to see if I can get that working. If I could get the recompressed file recognized, I was hoping that setting the wounded hours remaining to 1 might give it a new chance to unwound that soldier when it goes to 0 again. The bug appears to be introduced into the save as soon as the soldier returns wounded, not just when he should return to duty, which makes it difficult to reload old saves around it as you've likely played a couple of missions when you find out about it. I thought it might have to do with his gear changing, but giving him various armor/vests before he recovers doesn't help. That's all I have at this point. If I get further, I'll update. He did not, of course, ever end up updating. Edited September 24, 2013 by Willowran
Krazyguy75
Couple more follow up questions: -Are you using steam? I assume not, now. Cause the cache is for steam. You can just right click then say "Verify integrity of game cache", and that fixes most of the unusual problems-What operating system are you using?-What firewall are you using? Probably not related, but the little buggers (polite little buggers, though) like to screw up every program they can get their hands on)-Do you have any other major programs that are running at the same time? However, it might be too big of a problem to easily fix, and a reinstall might be necessary (assuming you haven't tried this?) and still has a large chance of doing nothing. Also, I assume it affects all soldiers?
Willowran
I am indeed using steam. Windows 7 (thats about all i know). My antivirus is Microsoft Security essentials. I agree with you, though. I doubt this is related. no other MAJOR programs running at the same time, though i usually have google chrome clucking around in the background. i could always try a re install, but i think that if the solution was so obvious that one of the many people who've had this bug would have tried that. It affects soldiers sporadically. You can never know what soldier it WILL affect, and what soldier it will not. Hit and miss.
Krazyguy75
Try right clicking on the game in the library, then I believe it is local content tab (if it isn't, just look in the other ones, it should be fairly obvious), then click "verify integrity of game cache". That might fix it, if it doesn't, then there honestly there isn't much we can do, unless one of us can replicate it... If you really want, you could try learning your way around UE Editor and try to find which part is causing you problems, but that would take a lot of effort and not necessarily even point out what was wrong. I don't know if there is a program out there that can compare massive sets of hex, but comparing the coding is the only other thing that I can think of, and both of these are incredibly over the top solutions... Keep a close eye on when it happens. It could be anything from them carrying a specific item, wearing specific armor, using specific weapons, losing their armors worth of health and no more, happening only on certain times of day, happening if they healed, happening if they got shot exactly X times, what rank they had, their stats, or something else strange, but I doubt that it is truly random, and that might really help. Otherwise, I don't know what to do for you... Sorry for not being that helpful...
Willowran
No worries. I sent a fb message to the XCom staff, and they replied. Seems they are aware of the bug, and indeed are working on a fix themselves. Hopeful ythey'll drop a patch at some point.:) Thanks for the suggestions. :)
Drakous79
Hi Willowran :) Can you upload the save file somewhere?
