Enter... The... High school modding nub?

I'm looking to get into the modding business. Or more specifically, gaining experience making 3-D levels/characters/items/weapons.

I already know how to edit the properties of items, and I have slight ideas about putting together 3-D files (modding polygons at the most). I also have (in my opinion) decent Photoshop experience (Photoshop 6; I'm teh old-school).

So basically, I know how to reskin things (or will be able to learn to) and I know how to set up the items/objects. And... That's about it...

So, my main questions are:

*What 3-D programs are easy to use for Fallout 3 and know of any tutorials? (Working on getting 3D Max 9; Should have it running in a few days)... Also, I've tried Blender and I find it a bother and a bit of a pain in the ass to use.

*Know of any ongoing projects that need/wouldn't mind someone shadowing in or providing input/beta testing?

*What's the best place to start for scripting in Fallout 3 and what language is used? I'm slightly familiar with VisualBasic, which should give me at least a little bit of an advantage figuring things out.

And as of now, that's about all I have to ask... I'm looking forward to working here :)

Also, in case anyone wonders about RL background, I'm 18. I'm looking to go to UAT (University of Advancing Technology; Tempe, AZ) or Fullsail for a game design course. I don't have too much cash in the bank (no surprise), so I need all the experience I can get with this stuff. Any projects to shove into my 'Portfolio' (random crap file) would be nice to have.

Since I don't have everything set up to start modding here, I'm willing to offer feedback on ideas and projects as well as any ideas of my own... I'm thinking of making a Presidential Vault 1 as a player home first thing... Really posh (sw@nky is blocked?) clean place to chill in DC (by the Lincoln memorial, perhaps?).

Anyways, High School sucks, and I have to get to sleep.

:thanks:
