Quicker access to new item descriptions?

Question for some of you more knowledgeable modding types: would it be at all feasible to add a kind of function to the game so that when you pick up a new item you can press a button to quickly pull up the item description? I'd love to be more thorough and diligent about reading them as I pick things up, but stopping to hunt through the inventory each time is driving me crazy. Just curious if it's even something that's possible.
