Nihilist87
Hello!I finished the Vanilla game 3 times now and I would want to start again, but it wouldn't hurt to enhance the game's experience a bit, using mods.I am new to using mods for Fallout 3, so I need a bit of help.I've gathered how much information I could on what utilities to use, mods, how to load the mods... etc.So I've downloaded a lot of them that seemed nice to me... but I had compatibility problems, crashes, etc.So, what I am asking here is for working (big - preferably) mod lists, some lists that you guys are using or have tested.I would be grateful if you would post them here, and paste their order as well, and any additional information for a "noob" like me , if you like. Thanks! All the best! LXD9
I think you'll find that anyone that has a large list of mods working together has made them that way themselves. Every time you add a mod you add potential conflict and if you are not prepared to resolve them yourself then they are not going to work well. And honestly if you learn to fix these yourself you will have a lot more fun with mods in general. Barring that, you probably want to look for large mods that do a lot of changes in an integral manner, that already merge together several mods or concepts like Fallout Wanderers Edition or Fallout Overhaul Kit. Fo3Edit is a tool you will needThis is a guide for it

Nihilist87
Thank you very much guys!to LXD9:So, I took your advice, and tried to make a 3rd mod list...This time I downloaded only the most endorsed ones, and suited for my needs.I don't have so many problems than before, but still...I get random freezes/crashes when:1. I launch the game2. Sometimes when I load a saved game3. Now and then, when I fast travel4. Sometimes I have crashes after I use explosives to unlock doors...Another thing that I've noticed is that the Vault 101 mod did not work... it was the same as in the original Fallout.I will post my mod list here, maybe you can make some suggestions or give me some tips.So, here it is: [X] Fallout3.esm[X] Anchorage.esm[X] ThePitt.esm[X] BrokenSteel.esm[X] PointLookout.esm[X] Zeta.esm[X] CALIBR.esm[X] CRAFT.esm[X] FOOK2 - Main.ESM[X] FOOK2 - [DIK] DLC Improvement Kit.ESM[X] TalonExtraArmor.esm[X] RH_IRONSIGHTS.esm[X] Alton, IL.esm[X] Sydney Follower.esp[X] xCALIBR.esm[X] Vault 101 Revisited.esm[X] ArefuExpandedByAzar.esm[X] TheInstitute.esm[X] DCInteriors_ComboEdition.esm[X] FOOK2 - Main.esp[X] FOOK2 - [DIK] DLC Improvement Kit.esp[X] FOOK2 - Main [Hotfix].esp[X] FOOK2 - DIK [Hotfix].esp[X] WeaponModKits.esp[X] RH_IronSights_Basic_VanillaPlugin.esp[X] RH_IronSights_Basic_PittPlugin.esp[X] RH_IronSights_Basic_BrokenSteelPlugin.esp[X] RH_IronSights_Basic_PointLookoutPlugin.esp[X] RH_IronSights_Basic_ZetaPlugin.esp[X] RH_IronSights_Pitt_NewRifleSights.esp[X] RH_IronSights_PL_NewItems.esp[X] RH_IronSights_Basic_AnchoragePlugin.esp[X] RH_IronSights_RemoveReticule.esp[X] RH_WMK_Bridge.esp[X] Stealthboy Recon Armor - CRAFT.esp[ ] Compatibility Plugin00 TalonCo & Marts.esp[ ] Compatibility Plugin01 PunisherGear & TalonCo.esp[X] ArefuExpandedByAzar-Radio.esp[X] Sydney Follower - Load Order Fix.esp[X] CRAFT - Activation Perk.esp[X] BlackWolf Backpack.esp[X] BlackWolf Backpack - Vendor Script Replenish.esp[X] BlackWolf Backpack - Blank's Container Patch.esp[X] FO3 Error Fixes.esp[X] xCALIBRammo_override.esp[ ] xCALIBRammo_FWE.esp[X] UPP - Pack 1.esp[X] UPP - Beverage Perks.esp[X] UPP - Quest Perks.esp[X] UPP - Experience Perks.esp[X] UPP - Pack 2.esp[X] JessiCompanion.esp[X] LucyWestCompanion.esp[X] FasterMorePowerfulMines.esp[X] NotSoFast.esp[X] The Mantis Imperative - Combat.esp[X] The Mantis Imperative - Medical.esp[X] The Mantis Imperative - XP.esp[X] CALIBRxMerchant.esp[X] The Mantis Imperative - Mantis.esp[X] The Mantis Imperative - SkillBooks.esp[X] The Mantis Imperative - Jello.esp[X] HeirApparent.esp[X] AltonAddon.esp
Nihilist87
To panzersharkcat:Wow, that's one huge list... :)Thank you very much for that! When I will start over I will try it for sure. All the best, guys!
panzersharkcat
Vault 101 Revisited doesn't trigger until you complete the Trouble on the Homefront. It only adds one extra room near the Overseer's office. There's Escape! Redux but I uninstalled it. You might also want to use FO3Edit to flag Puce Moose's stuff as master files. It greatly improves their stability.
LXD9
I didn't see anyone mention whether you were using BOSS or not.http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/10193/?That will help sort you esp's your mantis imperative esps's don't appear to be in the correct order, not sure if there is a 'correct' order though. Also you should try turning off the auto saves, they will cause crashes. I only use some of the mods you have listed so I can only comment on those. The Institute, Mantis Imperative, and Arefu expanded all caused problems for me. Which isn't to say they are bad mods, I enjoyed all of them, but it took some fo3 edit work to get them to not crash. Arefu expanded caused some corrupted saves, don't save anywhere near there while that mod is active. I actually just got passed a bugged spot in one of the quests there I had never been able to finish, I think it was hanging up on a conflict in the initial greeting dialog that i just fixed in all my mods. But just running your mods through the Fo3edit cleaning process will help alot You also might want to try out the updated Unofficial Fo3 patchhttp://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/19122/? acelogan
I didn't see anyone mention whether you were using BOSS or not.I actually stopped using BOSS because it would screw up my meticulously personalized load order, and didn't always suggest the best LO anyhow. Every single time I installed something and then ran BOSS I'd have to spend lots of time putting specific mods back to where they needed to go to avoid conflicts; such a pain. @Nihilist87 I do, however, agree with the suggestion of turning off the vanilla autosave in the games settiings - I use the CASM mod (http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/3729//?) instead and it works quite well, and has custom settings to adjust to your tastes. I've been using mods off and on for a few years, and I still haven't quite figured out the best LO every time. Right now I'm currently trying to weed out why my game crashes occasionally when I read Skill books. Edited September 30, 2013 by acelogan
Nihilist87
No, I'm not using BOSS.Maybe I'll check it out...But first I will disable the autosaves, because I haven't done that. And I can also delete the Arefu Expanded mod as well, if you say it can cause problems, and I don't find it so great either. And yes, I ran my mods through FO3 Edit, had to delete 3 mods, and then I got no errors.Thank you guys! BOSS can be sort-of useful for seeing incompatibilities or script erros, but I have yet to learn how to use that to improve my load order or "repair" my mods. They (the devs behind BOSS) say that they maintain a fairly thorough list of mods and compatabilities, and yet many of the very popular mods are still not recognised by it - and I have sent them the links and information on many of them many times, over the years... yet they remain unrecognised. So I thinki it's not exactly hilghly dependable a tool as people say it is. Why did you delete those mods; where there errors or incompatibilities?
