Anyone have issues with using the left trigger on a controller with any mods?

So, as the title suggests, I'm having an issue where I can't use the left trigger on my Xbox One controller in game. I can't aim, and I can't use the left trigger to switch menus in the PipBoy. Controller works fine in every other game, and keyboard and mouse work fine in game.

I'm going through the motions of disabling a mod at a time and seeing if something fixes it, but nothing's working, and Google turns up nothing that has helped.

I was hoping that someone might either have run into this before, or has an idea as to what the cause could be.

also having controller issues....

i play fallout 4 with a steam controller and for the most part its been fine. however i have lost the use of some of my buttons in game. i have checked in big picture mode and the controller buttons still work so i don't think this is a controller hardware issue.

i first lost the use of button underneath one of the paddle buttons but as i hardly used this button i just ignored the issue and played on.
then i lost the use of the top bumper buttons witch i had rebind to B and U. if i press B or U on the key board while playing they work as i had configured them to work but the controller does nothing.

now at over a 1000 hrs in i have lost the use of the start hold button which takes you in and out of workshop mode... the button still works for changing from third to first person but i can only enter workshop mode by going to the workshop table.

i am pulling my hair out at this stage as starting a new game is really not an option any ideas on how to resolve this major game issue would be fantastic

Through steam, try "disable steam input". Fallout4 > right-click > properties > controller. No guaranty this is the issue (I have no idea what mods/conflicts you're having), but every controller issue I have had with FO4 has been from a Steam issue.

doesnt this just disable the key binds that i have set on the controller configuration?

My understanding is this removes steam imposing controller settings and puts it back on the game itself managing inputs/settings. This worked for me on both the "losing start/select" and "losing certain trigger/bumper" issues with controllers. You can always change the option back.

Edit: I've noticed it on several other games on steam, seems to happen when the native controller support doesn't get along with what steam is trying to do. Controllers generally work well on steam imo, but had a few of these pop up in the last year. Disabling steam input has worked on those. Without more info like load order I couldn't really say more. Are you using MCM? It's keybind manager could be something to look at. Have you tried toggling control type from k/m and back to controller? Its fallout... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

okay so after more playing about with different setting ive realised that the buttons that no longer work are ones that i have changed the function... added a keybind to the controller. still no solution but it narrows down my search

i have so far been using a hybrid setup with the controller enabled in the fallout control settings with a few added hot key buttons activated on double presses as if it was from a key board press.... it seems the game doesnt normally allow inputs from both the keyboard/mouse and the controller but as i have had buffout 4 installed i have been able to have a hybrid set up using both the controller and the keyboard inputs.

why it no longer works is still to be discovered

using a controller configuration from the community that is set up as if it were on keyboard disables all the controller inputs....

im guessing if i switch back to keyboard and mouse in the in-game controller settings this might work... with the downside of all the controlls being a pain in the ass to get used to especially when mode shift is needed

has there been an update to buffout i wonder???

This sounds like you are using a mod that creates a custom controller map where the Left Trigger is the Shift key - thereby disabling it entirely and only using it to switch to a different controller map set so you can have multiple commands with the same controller key.

Edit:

i.e. A and Shift+A - where holding down the Left Trigger is Shift.

Added:

TBH I use a controller and I rarely ever use the keyboard with it - and never use the mouse.

Ex. The tilde (~) key - I use that for entering the Console. That is about it.

i used to work so that set a hot key in the mcm with the key board and then i could use the controller config to mimic that key with press or double press on the controller. ...

but now the hotkeys only register if i press them on the keyboard. the controller does button does nothing even if i try and change the key bind in the mcm hotkeys by pressing the controller ...

it will not register any new rebind i try with the controller
