I did put the user data in whatever the f*** it was supposed to be into

Ermm, what? If you mean that something which pops up during Blender installation saying Blender scripts should go somewhere else, just ignore that and go with the default location. I actually listened to that advice the first time I installed Blender and neither nif scripts of PyFFI scripts worked.

 

Anyway, getting Blender with nif scripts to work as they should is easy:

 

1. Install Python 2.6.6

2. Install Blender 2.49b

3. Install PyFFI 2.1.11

4. Install Blender NifScripts 2.5.9

5. Done

 

That's all there is to it, it's nearly impossible to mess up.
