FoxhoundCommander
ARCANUM? For those who don't know, Arcanum was an epic 2D RPG (Baulders gate style) that use to be around when Morrowind first came out, it was a huge game and you could recruit quite a few people for your party in it, most of them had voice acting, the really good and somewhat plot related ones anyway. THE DREAM! My Idea is to recreate some of the Companions from Arcanum, for oblivion.Because they are so unique and the voice acting was really good. I got a laugh listening to some of them since there's an audio file for "Geoffrey Tallond Ashe" where he says "And what brings you to this corner of Oblivion?" But I was thinking, rather than have one mod will all of them in it, separate it into parts. One for each companion. It also works this way because some people rather not have more than they would actually use in their game, and some of the characters are fairly specialized. When you talk to them I was thinking your options would look something like this- - Wait here. (makes them wait, they have audio for this)- Let's Trade. (Brings up their inventory)- Rumors. (I would probably want to disable this for most people since they obviously don't have anything, and hearing Virgil suddenly sound like a normal Oblivion character would seem odd.) - I need healing. (Probably only Virgil would have this since that's basically his job, then that would branch into- - Minor Heal (Heals you with a basic health healing spell)- Major Heal (This would appear at a certain level)- Cure poison (Self explanatory, although poison isn't a big deal in oblivion unlike it was in Arcanum, however you never know) - Cure Disease (self explanatory and damn handy) Now with their leveling, in Arcanum most of the characters had a set level, until the player caught up, from then they would level with the player, but that sounds like it would be unnecessarily complicated in Oblivion so I would say they could just simply level with the player. The other thing was, I am still trying to figure out if they should be set as essential NPC's or not, In Arcanum you could resurrect people when they died but I can't remember if Oblivion has spells like that since I rarely play a mage character, I think just having them as essential would be the easiest thing to do. Basically I'm clueless with scripting nor do I have the patience to learn it all. So I can provide the audio files, any other information and I can do things like design the characters looks. If anyone wants to take part in this then let me know, and I mean someone who is good with the whole companion mod thing in CS. The character Virgil wouldn't have any sort of quest involved, I'd throw him in a church, or even weynon priory, or even out side near the imperial sewers haha. However one of the characters, the one i am very keen on, Torian Kel had a quest to get him to join, when you meet him, he is a skeleton in an ancient temple, asks you to seek the Dragons blood to the north, you go to where he marks on your map, fight your way through, find the dragons blood and go back to him, you use it on him and he is basically resurrected into a human. I'm really keen on getting him into Oblivion first since, his voice is awesome as hell, he has a great little story, and he can make use of rumors, since he has audio that can work for it, he was undead for a thousand years or so, in response to rumors he would say things like "This world is vastly different to what I knew so long ago" etc. I am actually tempted to blend him into that Akaviri fort where you look for the draconian Madstone, he can be an ancient Akaviri soldier or something haha. Anyway, that is all for now. Let me know what you think of the idea (If you played Arcanum anyway)
