Lord Garon
Okay..Perhaps another option is put whole skyrim in ram lol. A review of a viable option: AMD Ramdisk Nothing's free, so your boot and shutdown times will be longer, but Skyrim will probably start pretty quick. 24GB of RAM is about the same cost as a small SSD. The ramdisk program is about $20.00 I got the free version and symlink'd some bsa files into it to reduce drive queue times. Works like a charm. I imagine you could install a modded Skyrim into a 24GB ramdisk; my entire Steam folder is about 20GB. Or just junction the Skyrim folder over to the ramdisk. I wouldn't want to wait for the boot to finish with 20GB of data being transferred to the ramdisk, but, if you want Skyrim to launch as quickly as possible... I use mod organizer to manage my mods.So I can unpack all bsa files. But if I plan to put whole skyrim into ram, I think it's better for me to keep bsa files. It would be quicker for read I guess due to my AMD cpu. How many gb do you put into ram? How's the loadup time? Yeah..I put 3gb ram in use of ramdisk. The OS boot and shutdown time really take hit. Lord Garon
I just use 4GB from the free version of the ramdisk software. I used the Win7 Resource Monitor to find out which files Skyrim accesses most often and put as many as I could in the ramdisk; the loose file texture and meshes directories and bsa files from mods. My old HDD's are slow and cause lags during in-game cell loads. To load the ramdisk with a 3.8GB image at boot takes 20 - 30 seconds, longer to save it on shutdown. Believe it or not, I also reduced some lag by linking some bsa files to a USB 3.0 flash drive! Lol. Trying to access a bunch of different files on the same hard disk at the same time really slows things down with my old 5,400 rpm drives. Just experimenting around with system bottlenecks to see what I should upgrade next. All in all, I think it will be an SSD; I'll just link the data directory to the SSD and use my system ram to run with no swap file; Win 7 does all kinds of system crap in the background and generates random, intense bursts of page faults which impacts everything else. If you have a 30 second Skyrim startup time AND an SSD, I would use Resource Monitor to see what TESV.exe (and the system) is accessing at game startup. I know that MSE "checks" extracted bsa files when Skyrim loads them, which REALLY lags my system, so I would make sure to "ignore" Skyrim in whatever AV program you use. Dungeonfighter123
Definitely..I already rule out my whole steam data in my av.Does that really save up your skyrim startup time (from windows to main menu)?
Lord Garon
Definitely..I already rule out my whole steam data in my av.Does that really save up your skyrim startup time (from windows to main menu)? No, from menu to game. I can watch MSE check EVERY file that is extracted from a bsa during savegame loads; meshes, textures, animations, etc. It IS interesting to see just how much work this computer can do in a few seconds, just not while I'm playing a game.
