David Brasher
I am not very good at modding. I made this mod where a drop-out Mythic Dawn cultist was living in a cave with a bunch of other rogues. She managed to open her own Oblivion gate inside the cave. I had a cool cell in Oblivion. Then I discovered I had broken my game. Mother always told me not to traffic with demons. After removing the mod (and feeling really sad about my wasted work) I realized that my saved games were also broken. This problem is here to stay, and if I want to be totally rid of it, I will have to start new characters. There is one Oblivion gate you cannot go into. It doesn't lead anywhere. In one gate, I grabbed the sigil stone and watched the light show and all the chains breaking. Then the show was over and I was still there and the Oblivion gate was still open, and the daedra were very angry at me. In one gate, the sigelum sanguinus (sp) was filled with the thickest white fog you can imagine. I could only see about half of a meter. I had to creep along following the walls. I couldn't find the sigil stone. I shut down the game and opened it again. Visibility was back to normal. I went to go get the sigil stone and it was gone! The chains were broken and the rack was askew. This Oblivion gate didn't need a stone to stay open. That is just not fair! Tamriel is doomed! So when you are modding remember my sad tale. Be very very careful if your mod includes an Oblivion gate.
XanAlderon
In one gate, I grabbed the sigil stone and watched the light show and all the chains breaking. Then the show was over and I was still there and the Oblivion gate was still open, and the daedra were very angry at me. Thats happened to me before, and it wouldn't fix by re-saving. I left the game for a while, when I came back the game was back to normal. It may work for you...
Guest
You must reinstall your game.
BossDweebe
Of course you have removed your own mod to try and fix this problem ? The white fog is a bug in the vanilla Oblivion. The Unofficial Patch has a fix for this. There may be other mods that fix this bug as well. You are supposed to start a new game when you install the UOP. EDIT: I had a look at the read me for the UOP. I was incorrect. He says you don NOT have tostart a new game when you install the UOP. I am not sure of this, but I think the gate not closing is not a problem, but a great nuisance. There are only 16 gates related to the main quest. Also try Fewer Random Oblivion Gates. This mod has several options for closing gates that arenot main quest related, and ones that re-open. As I am on my second run in the game I have it set to not open any random gates. It's nice to go for a ride and not have them spoil the weather.
XanAlderon
If problems stay unfixed, you should probably just reinstall your game.
BossDweebe
I think this is information is worth a new reply - The patch does not actually fix the bug, but offers this advice. From the read me of the UOP... Bug: Picking up the Sigil Stone in an Oblivion plane doesn't do what it's supposed to: the player stays put, the area fills with white fog, and the gate doesn't close. Solution: For some unknown reason the Oblivion plane you're in loses its hook to the gate in Tamriel you used, best solution is if you are afflicted with this bug is to open your console and type in coc AnvilBay and you'll end up in Anvil's bay. Also this may be avoidable if you never reload while inside Oblivion planes and then go back into the same gate. If you have to reload while in an Oblivion gate quit the game entirely and restart it to ensure that memory is properly flushed out.
spyro1201
I've had the fog happen to me when i used a mod which adds a ring that gives you a spell to summon a Camoran style portal to oblivion.I once went in the sigil chamber and the white fog was there. What was also weird was the fact that it was as quiet as a graveyard.Since sudden surprises like being in a fiery dark dungeon and SUDDENLY your in a white, soundless abyss really scares me.(its not the abyss itself that scares me its the sudden surprise)I immediately excited game.Next time i came it was normal(more or less)But the problem came in other such sigil chambers.Eventually after another few of these "surprises" i i decided to re install my game, for that reason plus a few more from other mods. Today when i want to go into the real of Oblivion (since i past the invasion long ago) i use the portal in the basement of the Ancient Towers Mod (and might i add a MUST HAVE mod)
