Maximum new species number?

I put in a load of new species and my game either crashes on start up or I can load a zoo and the buttons don't actually bring up menus.

I have all the requisite support mods and I am only using ver 1.9+ mods.

Anybody have suggestions for an upper limit on number? Or know of any obvious, common conflicts I can check for?
