Oblivion won't start

Hi all.

I've recently installed Oblivion to my Windows Vista Home Premium 32-Bit System, and the game won't launch.

I can get the screen where it lists off your options like Play, Settings, Uninstall, etc, but whenever I press play, the small Oblivion launch box initiates, but immediately crashes.

Here's the information on the crash:

There are issues with Vista and it's security system. As an XP user I do

not have the answers to this. I believe you can turn the security system off,

and be sure to run as an administrator.

There are many threads in the forums relating to this problem.

If no one answers soon try doing a search.

While I know very little about these arcane codes it looks like

you are running an unpatched version of the game. (v1.0.228).

While this should not be a problem with an unmodded game many

mods require the game to be patched to 1.2 .

EDIT: There you go. Even as I was typing Dez pointed you in the right direction.

Two things:

First: Your game needs to be patched to the current version.

Second: Your hardware is probably not adequate for Oblivion (even though it's a three year old game)

Either check your specs, or

Please post a "Dxdiag" report:

Start , type in "dxdiag" (without the quotes), save the report to a desktop text file (default). Copy and paste the results (the whole thing) here in your thread.

Please don't kill me Bben

@Qwaxalot You are doing fine.

@BlitzBladeX Is the unmodified Oblivion all you are running? Did you try to start with any mods, DLCs, Shivering Isles or anything else? If so, what? What location did you install to? the default or somewhere else?

What video card are you using and how much video RAM does it have? Some just refuse to run the game. How much Ram do you have? The official specs on RAM are a little low. I had problems with 1G, It ran fair with 2 and much better with 3.

Be sure to shut down everything else before trying to start Oblivion. Some background applications can interfere with the game.

Do you have the original DVD or is this an internet download? The D2D version is known to have some bugs. The pirate versions are not supported here. If you have an unauthorized version, don't be so cheap, buy the game.
