The Refuge

I have been communicating with many players through the course of development for "The Refuge" but I thought it might be worth pitching this to the modding community at large especially since its close to being done. For an example of a completed version of my work, see "The Secret of the Mole Rat Maze" http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4181 and/or a small website dedicated to the mods www.pckarma.com.

"The Refuge" is a seven quest series (6 out of 7 quests are in-game). Please try it out if you are interested or wait until the final. I would love to hear comments, criticism, etc. Thank you.

If you are interested in details on how the quests lay out, it is structured as follows:

Quest 1: Introduces you to the main character, Carl Carlson. He asks the player to acquire an electric water pump in order to move water to a refuge that he is maintaining. There is a side quest to Megaton if the player has not heard of the place where the pump is located. During the course of acquiring the pump, the player has to navigate the depths of a water pumping station where he/she comes across the antagonists in this plot, the Bloody Reavers.

Quest 2: This time, Carl asks you undertake an even more dangerous task. He wants something else to help out his refuge and this time it requires you to assault a Bloody Reaver encampment. There is a side quest here as well which involves providing some assistance in finding the camp. Success earns Carl's trust and he shows you where the refuge is located.

Completing these 2 quests in series opens up the location of the refuge. This allows the player access to 4 freeform quests that can be completed in any order.

Quest 3: "The Road": follow the path of some of the refugees that never made it back to the rendezvous point.

Find out what happened to them so that the living can let go of the dead.

Quest 4: "Goo": help Darren the cook / biochemist in training gather the components of a military ration and so that the members of the refuge can get better nutrition.

Quest 5: "The Way Things Worked": Sarn, the local engineer, is seeking knowledge to help his fellow refugees and eventually rebuild civililzation. He knows that some of it is contained in a 3 volume set but he has not been able to find the books themselves. The journey to find these tomes will take the player to the fabled, Hunter's Roost, the hideout of a dangerous hermit.

Quest 6: "To Seek a Cure": a disease is spreading through the refuge and you have been exposed as well. Travel to the rediscovered L'Enfant Metro Station in search of the means to save lives including your own.

Quest 7: "Assault on the Reaver Stronghold": the final task at hand will be offered by Carl when all others are complete. All that you have done for the refugees will be for nothing if you don't take the fight to the Bloody Reavers and eliminate their base in this area. The player is given tactical knowledge about this location and must formulate a plan for infiltrating and destroying the stronghold.

This is definaly the best player made quest mod, I havent yet finisted it yet but I like how it is more lore friendly than the usual fantasy/pop culture reference mods that players are releasing. I really hope more people would copy quest ideas from Fallout series, there were really memorable quest storylines in Fallout series, and even a Beth managed to fail some of the quests, there were some really immersion breaking ones, such as oasis, vampire and the superheroes one for example.

This quest mod is seriously insane. I had more fun in specific parts of "The Refuge" than in most of the main quest. Not to knock on bethesda but this is the best fallout 3 experience that I have had!

I have been playtesting for Anarion9 since he started this project back on quest 1 and it is a lot of fun. I did decided to create a site specifically for Anarion9's content since I joined in on his projects, and you can find more info about "The Refuge" and download it here (pckarma.com)

Since he hasn't released the final project, any thoughts and experiences shared on this forum, nexus, or @ pckarma.com would be appreciated!
