I've installed directly to the data folder, as is suggested. I had an esp file, a meshes folder, and a textures folder. I moved them into the data folder and did everything so that nothing had to be deleted. I open Oblivion's Launcher, select Data Files, and the mod is there, right after the main Oblivion file. When I open the game, the product of the mod does not appear.

My mods are as follows;

HGEC body (doesn't show in data files, I need to use OBMM to activate it, and this one works at all times)

Tatakau Maid San

I run Windows Vista, so if that is part of the problem, let me know how to fix it.

Note; I searched the forums already, and attempted using google, which traditionally fails.

Did you click to activate the mod in the data?

HGEC does not have a esp. If you installed it right it will be there when you look at your body (female only)

From the maid mod:

Requirement

===========

Please install a texture set compatible with HGEC in advance.

Though this MOD is made from "HGEC H-cup", you can choose

any version of HGEC body set.

You do not have to install the "HGEC H-cup" version.

If by activate, you mean having the box checked in the data files on the launcher, then yes, I have it active. The mod says to go to the Best Defense, a store in the imperial city. There's supposed to be a chest outside, yet there isn't one when I load the mod.

Campaigner, I have your solution. I have posted this many times so I made it as an article. I use Vista as well and this article may help with your problem. It's at the bottom of this post. Installing Mods: How to. Hope this helps!

I'm stuck on a step of your tutorial; turning the security off. There's no option to do so. Is there some hidden button somewhere?

EDIT;

I found it, but it didn't change anything. After doing your tutorial, the mod still does not work.

Vista Problems

You MUST be signed on as an Administrator to do any of this.

If you have downloaded and installed a mod, and the mod is appearing in your Data Files List, but not in your game And you are running Vista, you have run into a security feature of Vista called User Account Control. Or more simply, UAC.

Quoted from the Oblivion Mods FAQ WIKI

Alternate Install Directory

If you install your Elder Scrolls game into any directory OTHER than the default, none of these problems occur. Thus, you can bypass the Vista security issues by installing the game onto another hard drive or into a new directory that is not located within the "Program Files" root directory (such as "C:\Games").

Run as Admin

Another way to fix it is to right-click the ".exe" file and click properties, then check "Run as administrator". Then click OK. Do this for both the "oblivion.exe" and TESConstructionSet.exe", and any programs you are using that copies files to protected directories (such as WinRAR, 7z, or WinZip).

Disable UAC

Windows Vista users who are fairly confident in the security of their computers might also consider disabling UAC altogether. This will allow all programs writing privileges to the Program Files directory. Although this obviously creates a state of decreased security for your PC, it is a very helpful one-size-fits-all solution to a number of compatibility issues with the Vista OS.

Look here for instructions on how to turn UAC off. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...-windows-vista/

Of these, solution #1 is STRONGLY PREFERRED. Solutions 2 and 3 (running as admin and disabling UAC) remove important safety features of the OS. In contrast, installing Oblivion elsewhere resolves the problems with Oblivion without reducing your overall security.

Wiki entry on installing Oblivion in Vista: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Windows_Vista

Note that unless you opt to reinstall the game in a different location (option 1) when you start trying to make your own mods using the construction set, you will run into these problems again.

After you turn your UAC off you have to restart your computer.

Try downloading the mod from one of the mirror sites if there is one. I don't use HG. I use Exnem and I had to use the mirror for the MOD to work. So that might work if my tutorial didn't. Some MODs won't install right with traditional means. OMOD ready MODs are under appreciated but are very valuable because they are self installed. All you have to do is open it and BAM! See if there is an OMOD ready version.

bben;

I reinstalled Oblivion to a different directory (My Documents), and also disabled UAC. The mods still did not work.

Kotton; I checked for a mirror, and there wasn't one. I went and downloaded Exnem's Body mod to see if that would help fix the problem. Exnem worked perfectly, and was in an Omod format, but there isn't an omod variant for the maid dress. As said at the top of this post, I already disabled UAC and reinstalled to a different directory.

Step by step of what I did after reading Bben's post;

Uninstalled Oblivion

Reinstalled Oblivion to My Documents (Not C:\Program Files\)

Turned game on without any mods on

Saved game

Turned mods back on through OBMM

Opened Oblivion Launcher to make certain that they were active.

Opened Oblivion, and loaded my character. I went to the supposed location, and no luck.

I downloaded and tried it. The file structure is a little different from most mods.

When I extracted it, it was in a folder that contained the data folder, To get it in, I copied the data folder from inside the main folder into the Oblivion folder and not the Oblivion\data folder. The texture and meshes folders were automatically included in the copy. Always answer yes when asked about overwriting files - it will NOT overwrite, it will append the files.

I use OBMM and enabled the mod there, (same as in the game data) started the game, loaded a save in the market district and immediately found the chest behind the statue.

The data structure looks like this:

025_1_SPB Tatakau Maid San non OMOD - This is the main folder

Data - this is the data folder, copy into your Oblivion folder, Not the data folder.

SS - a folder of pictures

location1.jpg - picture showing location

location2.jpg

etc
