zakmagic11
I think this is where to post this... Now, I'm working on a Modification for Oblivion which means I need to create a new Worldspace, But after generating the LOD I get craploads of mesh errors like this:http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/3803/screenshot24.png I know how to fix the Purple/Pink Textures which I'll do later but I'm stumped with what to do with the Mesh Errors. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.
Vagrant0
Happens when you have rather rugged worldspaces and not quite enough RAM. Usually when this happens, you still end up with 1 or 2 that come out right (look at the files in nifscope). To solve this, unfortunately you're stuck with a bit of trial and error (usually alot of error). Make a subfolder in your LOD mesh folder, and move the good ones to that folder for safe keeping, and keep regenerating the LOD meshes for the worldspace until you have all of them turning out right. Since the LODs keep getting overwritten, you will eventually need to move the ones from that subfolder back so that you can have all of them working. It's issues like this that make it clear that an outside LOD mesh generator is needed (possibly working from exported .raw files), however no such program currently exists. zakmagic11
ok, thanks Vagrant0 I'll give it a go in the morning. Also when you said I should keep generating the LOD, do I have to keep editing the landscape before doing so? Thanks again
Vagrant0
ok, thanks Vagrant0 I'll give it a go in the morning. Also when you said I should keep generating the LOD, do I have to keep editing the landscape before doing so? Thanks againLOD generation should ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS be done long after any work on the actual landscape is done. I can understand wanting to do this near the initial stages of a project just so you don't have mountains appearing out of nowhere, but should always be done after ALL important landscape work has been done to current satisfaction, All important landscape work has been saved, and should ALWAYS be done in a session when no other work is being done. Not only is this because the heightmap editor isn't particularly stable, but also because the heightmap editor can often create problems with the worldspace if opened and saved. Also, any work which has been done in that session may still be recorded within RAM, reducing the available resources for generating. In short, have your landscape mostly done.Have your mod saved.Start a fresh session (shut down the CS, wait a few minutes with your computer idling, and start up the CS again).Load your mod without it being active (won't affect your LOD).Then generate your LODs. zakmagic11
I tried generating the LOD in a fresh Session just to see if it'd work and it did perfectly without a single error so I thank you for your help and advice! :thanks:
