Opening Pip-Boy with DEF_HUD causes ctd.

It's as simple as that. I've done a clean reinstall of Fallout 4, installed the script extender without issue, this time I thought I'd try making my own HUD layout (I selected use existing instead of Vanilla HUD), just pushing most of the icons towards the edge of the screen, nothing major, I saved it, and put the .xml file where it says to put it, and now as long as DEF_UI is installed, regardless if I reinstall it or try switching to Vanilla HUD), the second I try to open my pip boy the game crashes to desktop. Google has been unhelpful, everything I've found another mod is the cause of the problem but at the moment DEF_UI is literally the only mod I have installed.
