ChalkLine
One of the classic small tower architectural statics is something like 'TowerSmallCastleTower512Ground1way', but towers in Oblivion never seem to act as stairs like they did in Morrowind. I was wondering if anyone's modded something like the static mentioned above to include a stairway for a tower that size? Otherwise it's very difficult to tie together small cells in a small fortification, you have to have either interior stairways which chew up the available room or have different cells for different floors. Guards on walls and stuff doesn't really work too well, and you can't really have anything like stairs in an interior without taking up some of the space within that interior. Take a look at some of the tower interiors for Chorrol and the IC, that's about the only way to configure something like this. The spiral towers in Morrowind were actually a bit worse since you ended up needing to use almost all of the interior for the stairway. The tower body statics also aren't very tall, so about all the vertical room you have to work with is like 3-4 sections which ends up being a rather short stairway. Yet, Most of my towers are just "staircase towers" anyway. The staircase itself, as vagrant0 said would chew up the useable space. It may not even be practical with a custom tower. I thought trying to make one in 3dsm, just to see. Yet, i am not very good at modeling atm. I am rather stuck on collision meshes. I have made some models but atm you just clip right through them due to lack of collision. It would make some things so much nicer. Yet, i have my own big project going on, so it is rather down on the list.
bben46
There are several mods with staircase towers. Glenvar Castle and The Dungeons of Ivelon are 2 I can think of immediately. Take a look and see how they did it.

The big problem is that the statics on the CS only have doors on the lower levels. If you're making a very small fortification with stair-towers you don't need multiple cells. I can fudge in a spiral stair using multiple individual stair risers, but can't get a door at the top without kludging in a square section which looks icky. If you have a fort with four towers, it makes to use one tower purely for a stairway (which was done historically, getting up a spiral stair under attack is a pain) and the rest for rooms.
