[LE] How Does Skyrim Count Time

Recommended Posts

I was trying to change the Voice of the Sky spell duration from 24 hours to 72 hours.

I take it the number 86400 which is the default duration means 86400 seconds.

So I changed the number to 259200, and now the spell effect seems to be lasting forever...

Unless its a script function which doesn't run on game time(most don't), the game will use its own time.

Skyrim is x amount times faster than real time. X = whatever the player has their timescale set to. Default is 20.

If you want to know how long something will last in game time, take your preferred unit of time and multiply it by 20.

In your case Voice of the Sky should be active for 3 Skyrim days.

  • 36 real minutes = 12 Skyrim hours
  • 72 real minutes = 24 Skyrim hours
  • 438 real hours = 1 Skyrim year.

The default duration value is: 86400

which is 24 hours.

And I know that the Voice of The Sky effect is supposed to last 24 hours.

I wanted it to last 72 hours, which is 3 days, so I multiplied 86400 by 3.

It gave 259200.

I set that value in Tes5Edit.

But the result is non expected: Voice of The Sky effect term seems to never expire now. It just lasts and lasts, day by day.

Yes, I usually change

set timescale to 11

Is that the case?

Or I am just "not allowed" to set values more than 24 hours, just like in case of dialogue "hours until reset"?

Skyrim uses 2 timelines, the first is the engines gaming time which is 3.33m (real time) = 1h (Skyrim time).

The game also uses 'real world time', for example: If you look at the blessings, they duration is set up to last from 8 to 12 hours, this duration is in real time, meaning it's real world 8 to 12 hours.

I haven't looked at how the specific 'Voice/spell' is been set up, but i think that you just change the value to 259200 real world hours.
