I have no greeting

Hi, i recently had problems with my computer and had to do a system restore, and did it to the day before i installed the Oscuro's oblivion overhaul, and now alot of people "have no greeting" and have nothing to talk about. some NPCs are fine and still work as normal. at first it also showed giant ! for some people and items, but i fixed that. Im thinking it had something to do with the system restore, but have no clue how to fix it, i undid the restore and it still diddnt work. should i just uninstall it and reinstall it(OOO)? Thanks in advance for the help.

 

EDIT: Only the guards so far have dialog most likly from rens guard overhaul, noone els talks, and i dont think it has anything to do with OOO, i unchecked it in the data files and loaded a game i had before ooo, and diddnt use with ooo, and i couldnt find anyone with any dialog except the guards. so i decided to see if it was the shivering isles thing. Well it appeared me underwater, there was no island for the door, a bunch of purple plants and a guard and kajeet swimming in the water they had dialog but no sound. im quite confused.

Check that your load order is correct.

I have not used OOO, but I believe it should be right near the top,

but after Oblivion and SI. If it has an esm that should come just after

Oblivion esm and before any esp.

The most common source of the "I have no greeting" is leaving Shivering Isles by any means except the door. If you use a mark and recall, a portal, a teleport spell or any other way to leave it gives you that problem UNTIL you go back in and leave by the door.

 

I am reasonably sure there are other mods that will do this for other reasons also. Try going to a save before it started and see if it happens then also. If it does not, then if you have enough saves you can narrow it down to a particular event or mod. Look for places where you did not leave by the door that the game intended.

 

And be sure to let us know so we can tell others when they have this problem.

Since you had to do a system restore that could very well be your problem. It doesn't always restore things the way they were especially with games, because I've had that issue in the past. A very long time ago but it has happened.

 

Sometimes files aren't returned exactly they way they were. For example on the rare occasion I've had to use a restore point I've found image files or audio files in folders they didn't originate in. So, I got my files back, but not the way they were supposed to be.

 

And if you also reversed the restore point again it may have caused more problems. It sounds like the system restore or the other problems you were having that caused you to do the restore, has messed up your game.

 

I was going to say reinstalling OOO might help before I read your edit, but if the SI island is messed up and dumps you underwater, it's not the door issue.

 

You may be better off reinstalling the game and even though that might be a pain it will fix the problem properly.

I saw another user with the identical problem on another forum. After much hair pulling, and teeth gnashing, the solution did boil down to a fresh install, coupled with an earlier save :confused:
