dc4a
After recently getting back into putting mods into Oblivion, I ran into an odd issue with Qarl's 4096x4096 LOD normals. After I extract the .dds files to the textures/landscapelod/generated folder, there is no improvement at all in the game, though I assume it's because the game does not use the textures, as for some reason, they all end in _fn.dds. Replacing the default LODs with them by removing the name alteration gives the landscape the texture of Qarl's LODs, but for some odd reason, instead of looking proper, they all have a weird rainbow color. Also, I used blade9722's landscapeLODs, as recommended. What should I do to fix this? Or is there a better set of textures I could use? Thanks in advance! Thanks in advance!Normal maps, which is what those are, are meant to give the appearance of bumpyness, not necessarily add more detail to the texture. Depending on your AA settings or your videocard, normal maps may not be showing at all for you. Depending on your videocard, you may not even be able to use textures that large. dc4a
That's odd. I'm using a Radeon 4850, along with a lot of other pieces of higher-end gear, so my computer should be able to handle most anything I can throw its way. How would I get the landscapeLODs and normal maps to work together, then?
Vagrant0
Texture adds coloring. Normal map makes it look bumpy even when there isn't actual mesh geometry there. Look at some of the town gates in the game. Most of them have sections which look like they have moss or something growing. Most of these patches look bumpy although the mesh surface is flat when there is light on them. Basically, you only got higher detail normal maps, not higher detail textures. The mod description should have explained this bit. You didn't notice this dramatic change, so you thought something was broken.
