DanVanClam
Im new to oblivion modding so bear with me... Okay, so I have OBMM and 7zip downloaded and running, and when I download a mod and install it OBMM maks it with the Blue square and in my data files for Oblivion, the mod box is checked along with the Master Oblivion file. When I boot up the game however, the mod never apperars to be active. The only mod I can get to work is this one ---> http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15802 and that one seems to work without any problems  ... but all the other mods I have downloaded do not work in game. I even followed a "Installing Mods Guide" here ---> http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=211 but still no dice. So far I have gotten the "Akatosh Mount", "Midas Magik Spells", and "Tyrael Armor" mods to give me the Blue box in OBMM, but they don't work in game. :wallbash: Help and suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated. bben46
Vista Problems You MUST be signed on as an Administrator to do any of this. If you have downloaded and installed a mod, and the mod is appearing in your Data Files List, but not in your game And you are running Vista, you have run into a security feature of Vista called User Account Control. Or more simply, UAC. Quoted from the Oblivion Mods FAQ WIKI Alternate Install Directory If you install your Elder Scrolls game into any directory OTHER than the default, none of these problems occur. Thus, you can bypass the Vista security issues by installing the game onto another hard drive or into a new directory that is not located within the "Program Files" root directory (such as "C:\Games"). Run as Admin Another way to fix it is to right-click the ".exe" file and click properties, then check "Run as administrator". Then click OK. Do this for both the "oblivion.exe" and TESConstructionSet.exe", and any programs you are using that copies files to protected directories (such as WinRAR, 7z, or WinZip). Disable UAC Windows Vista users who are fairly confident in the security of their computers might also consider disabling UAC altogether. This will allow all programs writing privileges to the Program Files directory. Although this obviously creates a state of decreased security for your PC, it is a very helpful one-size-fits-all solution to a number of compatibility issues with the Vista OS. Look here for instructions on how to turn UAC off. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vis...-windows-vista/ Of these, solution #1 is STRONGLY PREFERRED. Solutions 2 and 3 (running as admin and disabling UAC) remove important safety features of the OS. In contrast, installing Oblivion elsewhere resolves the problems with Oblivion without reducing your overall security. Wiki entry on installing Oblivion in Vista: http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Windows_Vista Note that unless you opt to reinstall the game in a different location (option 1) when you start trying to make your own mods using the construction set, you will run into these problems again. Would it make a difference it I coppied my Oblivion folder and moved it into my Program Files folder? Hi, The path you stated is usually where your savegames are stored. You want to leave that where it is. When installing mods and it says to install it into your oblivion folder it means your oblivion program folder, not where your savegames are stored. If you're using xp, the game is probably installed in your program files directory. Make sure you're installing the mods into your oblivion program directory under the DATA directory, not in the My Games/Oblivion directory. Hope that helps. Would it make a difference it I coppied my Oblivion folder and moved it into my Program Files folder? Is your game patched to the latest version 1.2? No mods will work in game without the patch even if they show in OBMM. If you have Shivering Isles you need the SI patch not the one for Oblivion only. Also make sure the esps are activated in OBMM with the check mark next to the name. Do not move any Oblivion folders. Only your saves and configuration files are stored in Documenst and Settings. The actual game files are wherever you installed the game. I use Windows XP and install my game to D:\Games\Oblivion, but you most likely have it installed to the default install location when you run the Setup which is on C:\ drive. DanVanClam
okay, so i downloaded patch 1.2, but when i try to run it it says it is not a valid Win32 Application... so how do I install that? right now it is just sitting in my data folder... This may have been what has been causing all the problems because I have never installed this before.
BossDweebe
One thing you should do is make a folder somewhere to keepall of your Oblivion mods and patches. Not in the games installationfolder. Your My Documents/My Games/Oblivion - folder is O.K for this new folder if there is a lot of room on the drive. As time goes by you may end upwith several Gigs of mods. Keep all of your zips. Back them up to a DVD. for you may one day find that some of the mods you downloaded are do longer available. Your patch exe, should not live in the Oblivion game folder. One possibility of the win 32 error message is the the patch became corrupted or was incomplete on download.Maybe try and download a new patch. Put it in your new folder andtry and run it from there.
