Crash and Errors Only in Wasteland

I've been running into an unusual problem. I'm getting horrible crash issues in the Capital Wasteland, and only in the Capital Wasteland (Including Megaton). The way these things work is that if I try to quicksave or leave the cell, it crashes, but I also can't access the pip-boy, and I get the red flash of missing textures, which my system has, but aren't loading. The sound effects from the guns stop working. I'm running a truckload of mods and I had this issue right after leaving Vault 101, but they went away and had no problems for 195 hours (this is my kitchen sink run, the last one). Then they stated to come back with a vengeance. It's also gotten to where I can't save right after starting. I need to load/continue and then load again, or it crashes on saving.

But the thing is the game still runs fine in interior cells. I've had no problem with any interior cell. That's not a description I've seen on any other of these threads.

OK, let's conference: are you running a lot of mods? When I said pipboy I was using pipboy readius. When I uninstalled it, getting access to the pipboy ceased to be a problem, but the lack of access to the menu continues. Something that helps, to a point, is to erase the Fallout.ini files which is in the same place as your savegames. You need the disk to restart it as it does a reconfigure, but it helps. Also blowing your character up is a classic debug for the game and it DOES help. Also are you using WndowsXP, cause there's a fix for that here.

At this point I have done the following:

1. I have reinstalled Project Beauty non-HD. This stopped the missing texture exclamation points in new cells, but not the slow crash.

2. I re-patched Fallout to 1.7 (it was already there) then installed Unofficial Fallout patch (I've had serious crash issues with that before), and that stopped the CTD on first load.

3. I put the thing through the Save Cleaner. As far as I'm aware the save cleaner didn't do a goddamned thing.

4. I put in the better game performance mod. Still, no better in the Wasteland slow crash.

5. I put in the Windows XP fixes, both in Fallout.ini and Fallout_pref.ini

6. Resolutions make no difference whatsoever, low quality through ultra high and any bloom, all slow crash exactly the same.

7. It seems to be worse the more items I carry, including ammo.

I am still experiencing the Wasteland slow crash. To reiterate: in the Wasteland, and no other cell except Megaton, I experience a slow crash. Its not a stutter, or a CTD, it's something where the containers stop being accessible, the people stop talking to you, no dialog tress can be entered into, and the save menu cannot be accessed. Again, it happens only in the capital Wasteland, and with fast travel I have been able to go into interior cells already discovered and been able to do quests and looting and such there. In any interior cell, and in DC cells, there is no issue whatsoever.

Please help.

Just curious, how big is the data use on the drive verses the swap file size? and have you rebooted the PC?

what you describe sounds like too much to process or the tram is totally full. exiting an interior and then are in an exterior when things creep up on you, your description is "NOT" a ctd? sounds like systems failure or lack of system resources ? this is a tough one.

Well, when I think of CTD, its a sudden, cataclysmic crash. With these, I could play for several minutes and not know until I press esc to save and the menu doesn't pop up. In this case its a 152 GB drive with 23.3 GB left. If there's a a ratio I should be aiming for, I'm all ears.

ok too much data used up, there is no swap file left at all, so your basically running out of VR ram.

windows uses a % of the data on disc but has a limit of Ram installed, hardware ram. Software ram is difernt in how it works, windows uses that mostly for this games functions. yeah, I can already here them coming so I make this short. you can run fallout3 with 512 MB of ram.

now . that leaves the swap file and the control of it, the system. 50% of drive space used leaves you with about 20% empty scratch space outside of it.

Your using up (128.7 gig's) swap file size is what? and then there's the systems back up that runs too, hibernation if Enabled. + you still need enough for windows too....... So.

no ram left. Got an external drive? start moving things off.
