FOR MY OWN PERSONAL USE, NOT FOR RELEASE

theres a few things i'd like to convert from oblivion. main and most importantly being a hood since it looks like no one is ever going to make a real one and the oasis hood in fallout sucks.

I already got the files out that are needed but i have no clue what to do to get them to work in fallout. just gives me an error saying the file is too old.

so i beg someone here to explain or link to a place that tells me how to do this because i've done 20 searches and can't seem to find any explanation on how to do it.

It is illegal to use assets from one game in another (with the exception of completely custom user-made assets, of course), even if it's only for personal use, so I doubt you'll have much luck getting any information on how to do this if that's your aim.

I'm not sure if there's currently any way to convert Oblivion meshes to Fallout 3 format, but I'd be willing to bet that any method that exists will be pretty difficult.

as long as you personally own both games and dont redistribute the files theres nothing illegal in it. Just go look through the files of fallout nexus there already are a few ports of stuff from oblivion.

in this topic a guy ported the halo suit from oblivion to fallout. so i know it's possible. and theres nothing wrong with it if it's for myself.

And if you still say i should only use a custom mod, then i have 4 of them downloaded from oblivion that include meshes as well. so i have a few choices, i'd just really like to be able to do this for myself since no one seems to want to do it for the public.

No, that's just a common misconception - even if you own both games and only use the modified files personally it's still illegal. Only with assets that are completely user-made is this legal, so things like that halo suit that you mentioned are perfectly legitimate. If you contact that author of that mod you might be able to get some instructions as to how to port user-made assets from Oblivion to Fallout 3.

not sure which post it was of there's but find DragoonWraith's profile and find the post he made in relation to other game assets being used.

It pretty much explains the stand on everything with usage of other game assets.

Cheers
