An alternative plane of reality

Right. I have no idea how feasible this is, so bear with me here.

My idea is this; that researchers in the Imperial City have discovered a series of caves which run underground, and date to the same time as the creation of the White Ayleid Tower which dominates the skyline. Eight shrines are located at roughly equal distances from the tower, one at each of the main points of the compass, and each shrine being built around what looks like an Ayleid well, but with stronger light emanating forth from its depths...

So basically, you, as part of this team, research a few texts, and from what you and the team translate, you are able to work out that the wells are used in conjunction with a spell which blocks the flow of the light. This spell is tracked down after a short quest, and you duly go about and begin to block off the light in each of the shrines.

As you block the last shrine, an Imperial Guard rushes in and attempts to arrest you for opening a rift to a plane of Oblivion. You ask what he means, and he is surprised to find that you have no idea what has been going on. He escorts you to the Imperial city, where the palace quarter has been flooded with Daedra. You kill them off with the help of a few guardsmen, and are shown the Imperial Council chamber. A constant stream of light is flowing upwards from the huge round ayleid thing which serves as a table, and is flying up towards the ceiling. As the player, you use your spell to try and block the flow. However, instead of stopping, the energy intensifies, and you are forced to flee the tower. You watch the tower, as the top of the great, towering obelisk begins to blast out the same light that the council chamber was filled with. The screen goes white with the intensity of the light, and when the brightness recedes, the sky is red and thundery, and translucent, ghostly spiral steps are winding their way up the ayleid tower. At the top is an Oblivion gate, but with a white portal instead of the usual red and orange. Passing through it, you find yourself in a darker Tamriel, which is largely devoid of people. By swapping textures and meshes and so forth, the Imperial city of this alternate plane has become twisted and unreal in nature, with the white Ayleid tower being black and that sort of thing, and masses of Daedra are preparing to swarm into the Tamriel we know.

As the player character, you must battle through the twisted, damaged Imperial city. In order to prevent huge clashes and horribleness with the rest of the game, which would inevitably happen, the player can only access the Imperial City for the duration of the quest, and they have to plug 7 smaller versions of the wells they plugged earlier, one in each district, guarded by Daedra, and a final one in the palace at the base of the black tower, which is complete with light blasting upwards as before. This time, though, instead of intensifying, the light begins to dwindle, and the player must battle their way out of the tower to reach the top, where the eighth component sits; the Sigil Stone. They pick this up, and reappear on the ground outside the Imperial City in good ol' familiar Tamriel, as the link between the worlds dissipates, and all returns to normal, except for mild scorching on the inside of the Imperial Palace in the base of the tower, and that sort of mild interference.

Not being a modder, I dunno how feasible it is, but I would assume it would be a matter of copying the worldspaces in the Imperial City and twisting things about and darkening them in Photoshop so they were more dark and scary and spiky and suchlike. I predict clashes with open cities, unless there's some sort of magical barrier in the way, or something like that, and with Better Cities, unless alternative meshes were made for that too... But it would be pretty fun to have, and it could be made so it was openable at any time, in case you wanted to go in and do a bit of combat training, and it could be expanded on out from the Imperial city, if it were a popular enough mod... You could bundle in loads of new weapons, monsters, and different things like that as well, and they would fit in quite nicely, as they wouldn't get in anyone's road. So, what's the verdict? What does everyone think?
