I have a question about creating custom meshed creatures. I have been dabbling in 3D modeling for a while now, and decided to take a crack at making a custom creature. The issue I'm running into is that I am kind of stumped on how to paint the weights on the skin modifier's effect on the bones (my current project is a Dwemer Mechanical Mudcrab shown here). Simply adding the bones to the mesh causes great tearing in-game, as shown here:

Can anyone give me any advice on how to weight the body so that this tearing won't occur? I tried and failed to find a tutorial on how to do this. Thanks for any help you can give!

What software are you using for modelling? With blender you can easily copy rigging(weightpainting) inoformation from vanilla model right to your model via wight copy script.
