Abramul
As opposed to Uncle Bill? I think that the inch was defined as the length of three grains of barley, or something. The foot, for some reason, was actually based on the foot length of the current ruler.
ShinJiOh
Yes, and the yard was determined by a king (can't remember which one), but it was the length from his nose to the tips of his fingers, while his arms were outstretched. Obviously this is why they called it imperial. However, while the metric system may be more practical in use and the like, the Imperial system is much better for bragging rights. For example, amate of mine told me he could bench press 200 pounds, my other mate wnet "Woah, 200" only to realise later that 200 pounds is F.A.
Dunedain
Just curious do the people in america use the imperial system for physics since all the calculations dont work if the imperial system is used.
Abramul
No, the calculations work fine. You just have to constantly convert from one unit to another, which is a royal (or Imperial?) pain.
Dunedain
so you spend half your time converting units instead of working lol i feel sorry for you.
Marxist ßastard
Don't feel sorry. Only idiots would use the Imperial system for scientific applications, which, even in the US, are largely metric, but sometimes also consist of measurements based off of the attributes of the Library of Congress. Marxist ßastard
Somehow, I'm not suprised by this revelation.
tyjet3
I think it really depends on the usage... Metric is good for most things but I prefer using the Imperial system on things like architecture and construction. But Metric is the shiznit for electrical engineers and chemistry and physics.
