LilHagrid
Hi ya allI wonder if any one can help me? I seem to have lost most of the voice replies from my companions?I have to say it’s driving me nuts!!I am using that God awful Vista now, as I upgraded the PC with more memory so I could do more stuff, though unfortunately that means bye, bye XP, would it have any thing to do with that?I have user Account turned of and have installed Oblivion to Just C drive, but even doing a plain reinstall and just having one companion loaded I get no sound for most of the time from them.Generally the only reply I get is the closing remark they make?Normally I keep a couple of copies of Oblivion on different drives so I have a back up of every thing but absolutely nothing seems to work?Hope some one can helpRgds to allLil Hagrid

If it was an upgrade you may have to uninstall and reinstall Oblivion (Bben46's Guide) If it was a clean Vista install, followed by a fresh Oblivion install, the problem will be with the Mod install or load order. :wallbash:
Maigrets
I did a full upgrade at Christmas time, although I bought the separate components and a friend put it together, rather than a ready made system with Vista preloaded. There's nothing wrong with XP, in fact I'll be sticking with it until they no longer support it. I don't see what Vista would have to do with the lost voices though. Are you using other mods that affect races?
Deleted269910User
On a note; If your companion(s) is(are) missing the basic sounds, you could get a mod that adds voice files, of your own choice, from; Companion Sound Sets. It's a "workaround", but it can add a lot of immersion aswell and does wonders to the plain voices the vanilla game provides. After I myself found the mod a long time ago, I've never even considered going back to vanilla voices.
Aurasoma
I've seen something like this when using custom race partners, For some reason the choclate elves did not have any sound the first time I tried to use them. Removing the files and redown loading them fixed that but then the Tabaxi Started doing the same thing. I'm not sure if it was a bug in Oblivion, a second Custome CM thats overwriten the first text log or one that poped out of the CM partners program. I have found that cutting back on Partners and races has help some. Not sure if this is the same problem since I'm still running XP.

Unfortunately that’s why most PC,s come with Vista Now as the Norm is for at Least 4Gb of memory I did a complete reformat before I put vista in. Reinstalled Oblivion, then over wrote it with my saved file. No Voices?I then uninstalled Oblivion, cleaned all traces from the first Install and tried again just using One companions Mods plus the main companions .esp and .esm, still no voices? I have also tried other stuff but again still no voicesHelp.........................Rgds Lil Hagrid
Maigrets
I believe oblivion only uses the first 2 GB of memory anyway so the rest is not being used. So you may as well have stayed with XP. Unless of course you need the memory for other applications.
Qwaxalot
@ Lil Hagrid. Experimentally, rename the oblivion.ini file located in ...\documents\mygames\oblivion folder. Launch Oblivion, it will redetect hardware, make your video adjustments, then start a new game and save it. Then test your voice issues. Also, when you installed Oblivion, did you install it to someplace other than the default location? Or barring that do you have UAC (User Account Control) turned off. Vista will prevent alterations to software installed in the default programs directory, using instead a virtual space, which WILL lead to MOD problems. And as far as memory is concerned, the 32 bit versions of both XP & Vista can only use 3.2 gigabytes. It takes the 64 bit version to recognize anything over the 3.2GB limit. And yes, Oblivion, to the best of my knowledge only use 2 GB of memory.
