OdahKing
Hey guys, I'm new to modding and by that I mean making them. I've been using mods for quite a while, and I wanted to try and start making them instead, of just using them. I have no idea how to do most things in the CK...and I'm wondering if anyone know of any trusted links, that teach people how to do things like textures, meshes, or anything else. I'd really like to try and make a sword, based off of the one in my bedroom. Any and all help, is much appreciated.

harvengure
I'm with you there, OdahKing. I've been looking at modding for quite some time but have never just sat down and done it. Over that time I've read tons and forgotten it all. Here I am, looking to learn again and I am finding many of the tutorials and such are noted to be out of date (the creationkit site is even gone). This leaves me wandering hopeless through what little content I can find, unsure as to what is usable and what isn't.I'd personally love some trusted tutorials to help me on my way. Senviro
The problem with wanting to add a weapon into Skyrim is that first, you have to make it. This requires prior knowledge of 3D software and image editing/creation programs. Things like 3DsMax, MudBox, Zbrush, Photoshop, Gimp, Paint.Net, etc, etc. If you're serious about starting, there's a steep and tricky (but not impossible) learning curve. I would start looking into either Blender or Zbrush, and try to pick up some skills with creating and texturing 3D models. If you're well at that point already, and have some knowledge of mesh manipulation/creation, and happen to have 3DsMax and Nifskope, try this ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVPicWtxTWk It's technical, and such projects are mostly taken on by those with some degree of 3D experience, ranging from professional to hobbyist. My advice would be to pick up photoshop and Paint.Net (to properly convert images into .DDS format) and try playing around with existing textures. Change their color, play around and learn how the files work, add designs to armor and weapons, etc. It's best to do it in baby steps.

Gimp - It's free and there are plugins to create dds files the meshes use. Though there are some issues. If you have the money, Photoshop is probably a better choice.
