The Meeting Tower

They left the security building and caught a bus that took them near the center of town after twenty minutes. They walked the rest of the way there in silence, crossing a bridge over a small river that flowed around the center of town. They walked for about ten more minutes over a bridge that crossed an even smaller river. This last bridge brought them to the base of their destination.

The building in front had a base that was more than four times the size of a city block, practically the size of a mall. The base was also the intersection where eight rivers, including the one they’d last crossed, met as the water flowed through titanium arcs beneath the building’s base that supported the entire tower. The windows on the lower floors were stained blue and overlooked the eight rivers and the gardens surrounded the base around the rivers.

The building itself soared more than ten-thousand feet into the air and dwarfed any other building in all Olvusulthia. The building was so tall that its peak was hidden in the clouds and even if there weren’t any clouds, it was so tall that the peak would be invisible from the base. In order to get in, Jreksiveri'i and Pevirike had to catch a monorail alongside the river to get to the building’s interior, as the rivers made a ground-level entrance impossible.

Pevirike’s mood changed, as it always did every time she saw the building. “Hard to believe this was found in the center of the Earth during the excavations. I wonder how it was created.”

“What’d be even harder to believe would be if we’d built it ourselves,” Jreksiveri'i added.

Pevirike laughed. “That’s for sure!”
