Scarborough elves
After several attempts to get in contact with the above people I have come to the conclusion that this is the only way I am going to get the required responses I need to move forward on my project...I say project, I havnt even got the permissiobn yet! If you are in contact with either of these two brilliantly talented people... :swear: believe me, dont become a modder, your pm file is full permanently and no-one can talk to you......sorry this is in the public domain but I couldnt think of any other way to do it..... Hello, I have been around tesnex for a while now and I have seen a little gap in the market for a beautiful little mod that would be original and functional. No, I am not asking for you to make it. I am asking you for permission to use your weaponset as the model for one of the two weapons involved. Maybe I should explain the concept. Alot of people use a bow and a sword. But never do you see both weapons at the same time. I want to investigate making a mod that makes the unequipped bow, or crossbow return to the back, whilst also having a sword at the hip, equipped so to speak. one of either can be drawn, equipped, but both show in 3rd view. Is this making any sense? I have to be honest here, its not only your bows I am thinking of.(http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14723).Check the ebony, its sweet. Your shortsword series and these crossbows are my focus. If I have your permission and maybe some access? I realise your time is your own and as always, these little projects can come to nothing quite easily. However, if it can be made to work, I think the attention would be satisfyingly wonderful for anyone involved. Its never been successfully done. I have a copy of an attempt made by prime monkey (http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=975589&st=100&gopid=14166635entry14166635) on that page. I would be doing this for selfish reasons, but I can share the results and placate my ego. How about it? An archer is traditionally set up with a short sword and bow/crossbow....seems a shame not to oblige or expand on that principal. If you want no part of this and would rather I didnt use your work, let me know and I will go else-where and honour your wishes. May I say how grateful I am for your work as nearly every character I have uses you fine swords. Thank you. Scarborough elves. Linus, Oxfordite, May I have your permission to adapt your fine work into this visual mod? Or perhaps you would like to take a more active interest in what I am thinking about making. Yes I am aware of how utterly difficult this will be and probably noithing will come of it but......its that but I want you to think about, as above, if you request it I shall not involve your work. To anyone interested in this project..... You like this idea? you want to help? great! :celebration:PM me or scribble here and I will contact you. If you just want to use this mod...ITS NOT BEEN MADE!! WAIT FOR THE RELEASE BEFORE YOU PM ME PLEASE!!
Frodric
He was on the Bethsoft forums yesterday. His PM box there might not be full. He does ask for people to contact him and ask before using his stuff but states that he won't sue if you don't. I would suggest you try contacting him there. His last post on Nexus was in December from what I could see so I dunno if he'll see this.

I wouldnt want to see my stuff on other peoples work unless they had asked, so I am just treating others how I would treat myself, decorum and all that. Thanks again. Vagrant0
First off, mod authors come and go, there is nothing that you, or anyone can do to prevent this, it just happens. Some of these modders have the foresight or the chance to mention re-usage or alteration conditions for their work, others do not, or cannot, this is also something that neither you, nor anyone can do anything about. Regardless of all this, the wishes of that modder should be honored, and even if you do not ever hear from them, it does not mean that those files have become free to use. Chances are that what you want to use, if not a resource, may not be something you will be given permission to use, and therefore cannot use. Even if it is a resource, authors occasionally decide to pull their resources for various reasons, so usage is not always guaranteed. Regardless of what the project is, there is always a chance that what you want to use is something that cannot be used. This is simply how it is, and you should be prepared to accept this and find something else to use. Second, if their inbox is full, chances are that they don't come around to check it very often, or are getting tons of similar requests from other people. This is not the only mod community, so some people go months without ever thinking of checking back here to see what messages they have. Adonnay has not logged into the forums since Feb 4, 2009. I am certain that there are other people who have been trying to contact them for longer, who have not felt so enraged about not being able to contact them during the 4 days of their forum membership that they felt it was necessary to make a long, unnecessary topic on the off chance that it might be seen by this person, or someone who is in contact with this person. A simple, "does anyone know how I can get in contact with <insert author name here>? Their inbox is full." would have sufficed. Third, if you had bothered to do some searching on the subject, or made a post mentioning what your mod plans were, looking for tips since you were new to modding, you would likely be aware that your idea has been suggested many times over the last 3-1/2 years. The idea of having multiple worn weapons is one which simply, and totally, cannot be accomplished due to the limitations the game has hard coded into it, and the insane logistics involved with making special meshes for every conceivable combination of weapons (even if you just count vanilla ones). Essentially, there is only 1 slot that those weapons can be attached to, meaning that you need a special mesh made for every possible combination or weapons, which is configured to work with that one slot. Meaning that even if you managed to get a script working that can accurately swap out these pieces as they are drawn, put away, and changed, you would need a few hundred specialized models to handle the appearance end of things while the functional end (would still only be able to have 1 weapon equipped, this is hard coded) still works. There are other topics on this matter, from other people, this is the same conclusion that has been found there. Although it might be conceivable by some master scripter, using OBSE, who has a few months of their life to devote to configuring the dozens of models needed, the results likely would not be something particularly playable. Forth, even still, just on the chance that you happen to be that skilled, your request is a bit backwards. Instead of making sure it works first with vanilla elements, and having a tried and true proof of concept before thinking of expanding it to include other items, you have decided to skip steps A through Y and skip right to Z, even going as far as suggesting that this person help you with your work because they are so great. This is just a very bad way of doing anything, and will likely make people less willing to take what you have to say seriously. Generally, the more skilled a person is, the more of their own work they have to do before considering offering any help to someone else's projects, let alone doing most of the work for them. I would suggest that you take a bit more time learning the basics of modding, what can and cannot be easily done, and what areas you are particularly capable at before starting off on some grand project. You can always ask in the forums for pointers on starting a project, but you cannot expect anyone to be willing to hold your hand and do all the work for you, or even as the case may be, figure out all that hard stuff. Start out easy, work toward more complicated things as you go. Even simple mods can be rather good. If what you want to do seems like it hasn't been done yet, and seems hard to do, you would probably save yourself alot of time by researching if the concepts involved are even practical before starting out. In the years of posts on this forum there's a good chance that those very ideas have already been proven possible or impossible. Although some of this may have changed since then, the main underlying issues which prevent that idea likely remain.

I think the word I chose was...."frustrated". The point you make is a valid one, however I am aware that both modders involved are around and have been around and are probably going to be around in the future. You will note I did not ask to speak to LINUS? I would NEVER use anyone elses work without thier explicit permission.Hence my posting here. I believe you may be assuming too much and reacting to what is not there in my text. I do not wish to further inflame your sensativity, however, I do feel the need to correct you, as I would expect someone to correct me if I had the wrong end of the stick. Inbox being full, yes, it is. I am aware, I have made several attempts, and came to the conclusion that a polite request publicly made might be an avenue of successful communication. Indeed, I have had some further result leading toward the permission I am seeking. You appear to be unhappy with my solution to a problem. I do not understand what I have done to erk you so. Research and the desire to achieve a goal, that being the wielding of a single sword, sheathed and the ebony crossbow of Linus/oxfordites masterful work. Nothing else, no vannila, no "team" to work on all those weapons, no great enterprise. Just a simple beginning with the items of choice. My idea, my mod to build, for me. For me to make, for me to attempt, for me to achieve. IF....if I succeed, and that is as you say a BIG if, then that will lead onto....said idea moving up the scale of assistance and project work. I completely understand exaclty what you have described and I totally appreciate your stance. I do not want vannila bow and iron sword. I want to work with what I desire so that I dont waste my time working out something that I dont actually want, who am I building this mod for? Me. If it works, then it will go out someplace like here and those that like my choices will appreciate it and those that dont will either not use the mod or they will tinker with it themselves. Have you bothered to look at the crossbow mod? its unique. Getting vannila to work wont work with that, its a total re-write and if you checked you would know that. Please, this is not a pissing contest. I am not interested in a fight. I did not come here to annoy you. I came here to use mods, make friends, learn what I dont know and possibly create some stuff that others will enjoy. I am a new account, that doesnt help with your perception of me. Where did I say I was wanting someone to do all the work for me? WHERE? The entire theme of my post is clearly seeking permission first. FIRST. The "want to help? great" is at the bottom, its not overly stated, its not even a demanding statement, its just a single sentence. How can you rant off like that? I dont even care if no-one is interested, I am not doing it to get help. I am not doing it to build a huge team of people and create the greatest mod ever...I am doing it for me. In fact, I believe you have no idea what I meant, you have completely misunderstood my intent and that this conversation is over. DO NOT RESPOND vagrant. I am seeking any assistance in the field of obtaining permission to use the mods in question, thats it. I have done nothing wrong as far as I can see. :thanks:
Vagrant0
I apologize. I did not mean to come off as insulting or condescending. My impression of your intent was more a response to your usage of "frustrated" simply because a modder had not checked in for a long time. I also took your suggestions that these people help you with your mod to a greater extent than you likely mean simply because I understand what is required for doing what you want to do. I know full well what you are wanting. You want to have both a sword and a bow visible when equipped, and use them interchangeably without having to switch weapons. However, what you fail to understand are the significant issues which are involved with this. Even in the case of a single pair of weapons, a single crossbow and single kind of shortsword. You would still need to make 2 meshes which were weighted and configured right for the tail slot. 1 with just the bow stored, 1 with just the sword stored. You would then need scripting which detects which one of these weapons is equipped, and then change the mesh of an item worn in the tail slot to the mesh which is related to the other weapon. When the shortsword is equipped, the tail slot item would need to look like the bow. When the bow is equipped, the tail slot item would need to look like the longsword. For every additional type of bow, you'd need another mesh, for every type of sword, you'd need another mesh. These meshes would need to be configured special in each case using Blender or 3dsmax since the version which is worn would need to be handled and positioned differently to work with a non-weapon slot. In this, they would likely need to do all the work involved since you are not familiar with making meshes. As the scripting involved is fairly complicated, you would likely need help on this end too. I can understand that you want this only for your own uses, but I doubt it would remain that way as you find better looking weapons. My comment about using vanilla weapons instead was more as a means of proving that the concept works, and might be something that could be applied to other weapons. Afterall, if you can prove that something like this can work reliably, and can be applied to a broader range of weapons, more people would likely be willing to help you out or provide the needed meshes. You wouldn't need to ask to use their meshes if you were not planning on sharing this mod. And what's the sense in sharing it if it only works with a very specific set of weapons? Point is, try to be a bit more clear with your intentions, and try to consider offering some proof of concept for an idea before requesting to use someone else's work or asking them to help you. OK, can we try that again? I have had some flak thrown at me and you looked like another one. I guess we both assumed. I am actually working on a mod that will be called...scarborough elves. It involves alot and its not just a race mod, theres an entire valley world to build aswell. The duel wielding is a nightmare, I attempted it about two years ago when I saw that everyone wanted it but couldnt make it work. I dont have those files due to circumstances so I cant prove what I am saying. I had conflict problems all the way and it never worked, much like other ppeoples attempts. Since then I have had some serious personal problems and I drifted off the scene. I guess I was a bit snappy this morning due to wierd people in my kitchen cooking stir fry at 5 am. dont ask. I know I am not the only one who has tried this idea. As I said, my attempt will probably come to nothing, and I appreciate that you know what you are talking about. This entire game was built out of thin air, so I am looking at the problem from that perspective. I have thought about using the helmet slot in order to avoid the "tail" conflict. I dont wear helmets, hoods rarely but in order to do what I am thinking of I thought that could be a route to success. I know it looks like I am going all out on an idealistic whim.....but thats me, I dont like giving up, and using the weapons of choice is really because of my style of play, I tend not to change them once I have found something that suits me/the character. Plus addonay`s weapons level up. :whistling: I`ve just realised theres a resource file for the crossbows, I am still going to get Oxfordite to confirm though. Ok, so I am a bit over enthusiastic, and the problems been tackled before. Ok. I hear you. When I have something to show you, would you be willing to check it out? Might be a while. I do need to re-learn some stuff and I am already tied down with commitments elsewhere, but I really think theres a way to get this working. :thanks:
