Computer Update

Recommended Posts

Hi people, i need some advice on updating my computer. My local computer technician can update my computer, adding better parts. These are the changes that are being made:

Power Supply of 500W

Dual-core 3.1GHz processor

2GB extra memory (total 3GB then)

GTS250 512MB Graphics Card

The prize would be around 350 euros. Is this update enough to play Oblivion on the highest graphics and with FCOM? And is this prize realistic with the parts being added? Thanks

Your processor and memory are surely okay. Maybe your graphics card might not be enough for the highest quality, but surely high enough to enjoy the game very much.

About the price ... that depends on your computer. For example, it is much easier and cheaper to install a Memory card and Graphics card if there's a card slot avaible in your computer. So I can't tell you if €350 is reasonable.

Power Supply of 500W

Is completely vague. There is a BIG difference between some no-name brand 500w PSU and a Corsair 500w. Using a bad PSU could fry your entire machine.

Dual-core 3.1GHz processor

Is also very vague. I could clock an E2140 to 3.1GHz. I could clock an E8400 to 3.1GHz. Big big big difference.

2GB extra memory (total 3GB then)

Depending on what your current sticks are, this may or may not be a good idea. Again this is very vague, 2GB DDR2 667 CL7 is much different than 2GB DDR2 1066 CL5. Always make sure you have an equal number of sticks, since uneven numbers cannot run dual channel.

GTS250 512MB Graphics Card

Will play Oblivion at max but definitely NOT recommended in todays market. An HD4850 will preform much better at a comparable price.

Whats wrong with the 250gts?, i sugggest you stick with nvidia, i do agree that your specs are very vague.

Off topic

I was thinking of getting a 295 but it was kind of over my budget at the time, they can play anything on max settings in 1080P HDMI out, plus 60 frames in crysis to boot. Thats just one card.

One problem with the 295 cards, its huge lol.

The information above is the only information i got from the computer guy. I'm not that technic myself, so i didn't care. I've just sent him an email to ask for the brands.

Unless you're going to show me something that says a GTS250 out preforms an HD4850, by a noticeable margin, and it doesn't from the reviews I've seen, you're just being a fanboy.

When it comes to video cards invidia rules. Anyway the HD 4850 can be a bit pricy, it can go around 400$ compared a 250 witch is close 150$, stick with it. If you have an sli motherboard its cheaper to get two of them instead of an HD 4850.

You are an idiot, not only can you not spell nvidia correctly, you have no idea about prices. An HD4850 is nowhere near 400$. An HD4890 isn't even 400$. And HD4850s are some of the best price:performance crossfire cards there are currently available. You're being a fanboy and if you think I'm going to let it slide you've got another thing coming pal. I'm sick of kids like you lying through their teeth because they're on some companies shaft, and in the process dicking someone over who doesn't know what's what.

HD4850 for 130$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814131125 What 400$?

Or if he wanted to spend about 165$, here's an HD4870 for 155$ before shipping: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814161268

Or if he even wanted to spend a full 300$, he could get an HD4890 1GB for 275$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814131152

Lrn2computer.

Further, I bet you're one of those kids who trolls around newegg reviews thinking hes hot poo and thinks Tom's Hardware is legit for reviews. They're paid off worse than politicians. How about you come down to the Anandtech forums and get schooled on what's really up on components, because right now you're talking out of your ass, and I wont have it.

I've been building and selling PCs for years and my clients get the best for their money, no matter who manufactures the components. It is horrific that you are allowed loose on the internet to spread your misinformation and I pray you do not plague anyone elses mind with your delusions.

Credit where credit is due.

No, fanboys put the manufac over the actual price:performance. I'm putting the price:performance first. See next point.

its all about the econamy right now witch is cheaper?

The HD4850 is cheaper and offers better performance. Which is the entire reason for me dragging this out. If you'd just admit you're wrong we could end this, but you insist on prolonging it.
