Guest deleted5218494
Recently I've been trying to set up a specific "profile" of mods leaning heavily on Draugnarok, which kind of requires essential NPCs to be killable for "immersion" purposes. I've been through the three mods still up on nexus that in some way shape or form claim to remedy this but none of them seem to work these days. The one I got the farthest with I guess is "No Essential NPCS" which had issues with an infinite loading screen in the menu that I was able to fix via removing an unsolved reference error in SSE Edit. Doing that allowed me to at least launch the game normally again but didn't actually untag NPCs as essential. Could it require me starting a new game or should I just throw in the towel and wait for modders to fix their files? Not really seeing much discussion on how to resolve this. Are there mods other users are using for SE that are working that I'm just not aware of?
Algabar
TBH, I'm not absolutely sure on this one. A lot of NPC data definitely gets baked into save games. This might also be the case for "essential" flags. So, NPCs in an existing save might be essential, although some mod changes their status. To get a clarification on this, I'd recommend testing with a new game. Also, a script based solution might help with already existing games. I'd try this one, although it might not be exactly what you wanted:https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/27985

I tried it and the previously mentioned one on a new save and it seems both are borked up. I'm quite surprised that there hasn't been a bigger stink made about this subject tbh, it feels like a really basic utility to have mods or tools to disable this for a playthrough. Guest deleted5218494
so an update, I tried out EEP-Essential Extermination Program, this mod DID allow me to kill MOST Essential NPCs and Children NPCs in the game but did not allow similar abilities for NPCs like monsters, which is kind of what I'm looking for. At least this time it was a partial success though? I'll literally try out every essential deactivator I can find and post results here for the sake of future generations struggling with this issue (until it gets fixed). Guest deleted5218494
Final update maybe? I was able to find a mod that might have done the trick with exceptions to Balgruuf and Farengar. The mod was "Make All NPCs Non-Essential" by mohyphantom on nexus, it adds in a bat file which enables you to use a code ingame to quickly disable the essential status of most NPCs. This has allowed me to take out essentials without much fuss with an exception to children which I assume would require another mod.
