Help a Noob please

I just got Oblivion GOTY & am wondering if there is a list of essential files. I've been playing FO3 & decided to see why everyone was comparing it to Oblivion. I like using MODs but want to play the vanilla games a bit first before I decide I want to change stuff. That being said, I have to say that the human faces I've seen so far look pretty strange. As if these people all rode the short bus going to school. Not trying to offend any short bus riders here. Thanks

search,Enayla and then IFT on the main site.Install IFT first,they'll change the npc faces to make them look better

 

Characters,if your not going to use a custom race use random faces till you get one you like and then with the sliders tweek away.you can make very attractive vanilla characters with some patience and practice

Good idea playing vanilla for a while though.

Oblivion is huge, so you have lots of time to find what

you do and don't like. You can then add lots of extra game time

over time by adding mods. There is virtually nothing in the game that

cannot/has not been altered.

 

Be warned though - moding is dangerous to your other life -

you may end up without one. :blink:

Thanks for the replies. What I was really wondering was are there files that everyone should download to get the best from the game. I'm running it on Ultra & have only had two problems so far. One was a crash when I exited the game & the other was when Windows Defender started scanning early this AM & knocked me out. I needed to go to bed anyway but I like to be the one to decide that.

"Fast Exit" will rid you of the bane of the black screen on exit crash forever,

but it makes a new copy or your ini each time so don't forget to reset any setting

you may have experimented with while playing.

 

OOO and MMM seem to be hugely popular.

Most of the UL Landscapes are very good.

Clocks of Cyrodill is very good.

Koldorns cave retexture , but there may be something newer.

Landscape LOD replacement textures and the normal maps, (as above).

Natural Environments, and possibly the HDR colour override (tones down the yellow).

Illumination Within Revived (Night lights)

 

The above are all probably in the top 100 list.

 

If you use Robert and/or HGEC you will probably need a stock clothing and armour replacer

for both male and female (fixes body texture UV map issues).

Although it doesn't look like armour the "Adelina" armour by RAIAR is unusual and well done.

 

That's a small start. Every time you look you will find something, but you usually have to download,

and have a look before you know if you will actually use some mods. Especially cloths and armour.
