Vagrant0 Posted April 23, 2009 Share Posted April 23, 2009 Not to nitpick or anything, but that sign looks wrong, both fundamentally, and visually for this game. Fundamentally wrong since the lettering and design is part of the actual mesh, which leads to a very high polygon count. Lettering and details which do not contribute to the actual structure of the mesh should almost be done as texturing unless cannot be done otherwise. Normal maps can be used to make anything on an otherwise flat surface look raised or depressed. Visually because none of the textures used fit with the quasi-realistic world of Oblivion. To put more blunt, it looks too cartoony to fit with the rest of the world. It's all individually made from the lettering to the bed, the pillow, the bed frame and the sign its self. All of which is textured individually. It's ALL raised why the hell do you think I took angled pictures. This is just a RENDER not a mod. It's a visual aid for modders to go by for the general look and feel of the requesters wishes. So if it looks "too cartoony" for you then why don't you go and revert you eyes. Here's a pic just for your over criticized ass. Look RAISED EDGES! I believe my criticism was still constructive since I suggested ways which it could be improved. Your intentions for this post were not clear, and you do not seem to understand the difference between trying to help your effort, and just insulting it. If you explained what the intentions were a bit more clearly, that this is not an object you are doing for Izzydude, but are merely posting so that others might have some frame of reference to go on if they decided to make the real sign itself, it would have been seen in a totally different light. Someone who is not familiar with what you are working on, looking from the screenshots would likely assume the same as I did, that you were posting this here so that you could show Izzydude your progress on creating such a sign. I'm not entirely sure why you've gone to such lengths to create a 3d model of the a sign to act as a reference image for the end work, but as you seem to be rather hostile on the matter, I won't press further. Vagrant0 Posted April 23, 2009 Share Posted April 23, 2009 Still don't get why you're willing to go through such trouble making 3d models, to make renderings, when it seems like you could just go into GIMP or photoshop and do the real work. Even if they want that specific bed graphic, you seem capable enough of making a render of it, and using it in layers to create the wanted texture. It would also likely help if stuff like this was posted with whatever directions you were given by that person, rather than just images so that we can better understand what is being asked for. I really don't see why you are so concerned of what I do. I do this because I enjoy doing what I do. To each his own right? If I want to use gimp or photoshop, I would. I use the program that I like to create 3D models of various things for both personal enjoyment and for other people. I am not a modder, I do not want to take the time to mod. So I use my abilities that I have to help others in making 3D models of their ideas. The rest is up to the modders. I think it's funny you reported my reply all because I don't like when people who don't know what the means are of others have unwanted and unnecessary comments towards ones work.
