Ive been playing the 360 version of oblivion and i got tired of seeing videos of such awesome things on the PC version. So i got the PC version(not illegally, from a store) and installed it with the two expansions, knights of the nine divine and the shivering isles. i was wondering since i have yet to do anything on TESNEXUS if i could get some pointers because i am completely new and clueless, now that Ive entered the world of mods. can you help me out, maybe give me a few example mods and instructions on how to get them in the game so i can get acquainted with the works of things. would really appreciate it!!!

I have a set of help files for people who have no experience with mods or computers.

Click on the highlighted line below to be taken to the site where they are kept.

There are plenty of people here on the Nexus who will be happy to help.

To install files:

most files have a install guide mainly meant for new people. But here is how it works.

download the file, and open up the ZIP folder. some folders are 7z, just search google to download the ability to open / use 7z which is a far better compresser than zip.

Open up the file, and open up My Computers. Go to your harddrive where the oblivion is installed. Open up Program Files, find Bethesda Softworks, click Oblivion, Click DATA, and then drop the files from your zip folder into this directory

C:/Programfiles/bethesdasoftworks/oblivion/data

I believe its something like that.

Then you open up the oblivion menu by playing it, you will see the words DATA on the menu, open this up. You will see your Oblivion.esm (Esm stands for the master file of oblivion itself) double click the file that you just installed, make sure all mods you want run are checked.

Play the game, the content is automatically loaded.

If you want to make a mod, i suggest downloading, from tesnexus, the Construction Set, just search that.

Before starting any tutorials, open it, click Open, click Oblivion.esm, do NOT set anything as active. It will as "There is no active file selected, continue?" Click YES!

fool around with the program. See what windows do what.

Item window: This is where you can see the list of all items ever used in game. You can minipluate their properties.

Render Window: This is where the cell (Cell means the specific area you want to mod. An interior like a house is a cell, the city of Anvil has many cells, the game is broken up into cells so that it runs much better.) This is where the cell is viewed, you DRAG and DROP items from the item window into the render window. You can position them by holding X and Z and Y. These will rotate and alsoposition the object in many different ways. Generally you can just rightclick to rotate it the way you need.

The Cell Window will show all the cells. the ID of them should NEVER EVER EVER be changed. The NAME can be however, but still, dont do it.

It starts off with interiors being shown, you can click above to view exteriors or the outside. Tamriel can lead you everywhere you need to go.

If you are outside (or inside) and you wish to see the other end of the door, click on the yellow rectangle and view door referance.

Just fool around with this program for an hour, get used to it, find out where things are. When you save you will be able to activate your mod from the data folder in the menu of oblivion. They are already saved where they should be.

After fooling around for an hour and getting used to it, play the game go to where you made your mod and see how you did. Now take the tutorial from Getting Started. It is always better to fool around knowing nothing and LEARN BY EXPERIENCE FIRST before you start a tutorial. this way you are not completely lost when you are told to go somewhere or find something, as well, it allows an easier and faster grasp of the tutorial allowing your modding skill to grow much faster than it would have before.

Have fun, and make your first mod count. A new house, or a cave or something. When you grow in experience, you want to be able to say "My first mod was better than most peoples, i made a nice house which got many downloads. I made something that mattered, not some minor change no one cares about". This is my suggestion, it may be difficult at first but you will thank me later and be proud of youself. I did the same thing, to this day im proud of my first mod.

When you upload it, you put the file you made and take it into a zip folder, name it, then upload it. All files save as ESP (elder scrolls plugin) format. You can download ny 5 blank readme's resource to be able to get a good readme with instructions on how to fill it out so that the page looks good. IF the page looks bad, and its just some cruddy one liner description, no one will download most likely. People tend not to download peoples first mod if the description SAYS first mod by looks. If you SAY its your first mod, but you have screen shots of the mod, the description is nice and tells you how to install, a short description summary of what the mod is and then a long description of every specific thing it adds, then people say "This guy looks like he has a talent. I think i will download to see how good this is". You can learn more about Screen Shots from pinned threads on these forums.

I hope this helps, happy modding. If you find this comment useful, please give me a Kudos (click next to my name) to tell the community you found me to be helpful. Please PM me a link of your first mod, i want to see how good it is and see if i helped first hand.

most mods consist of a single File. You copy it in the Oblivion\Data Folder and then you can switch the mod on and off in the "Data Files" Menu in the Launcher. click on the "Data Files" Button and check or uncheck the Mods you like.

Oblivion mods are, for the most part, fairly easy to install.

wow thats very helpful, i got the cute elf race to work. ive tried a couple more like reflexes and the female eye candy mod. i cant get those to work though...ive downloaded the oblivion mod manager and ive tried putting the nudity files into my data folder in oblivion, but they dont show up on the data files when i launch the game. any idea on how i can get these nudity mods to work? im kinda slow when it comes to learning new things so could someone give me step by step instructions?

what i did for the cute elf mod was simple, Downloaded the file, extracted to a folder on my desktop, then dragged it to my data folder in oblivion, and i got it to work. i know theres some step im missing for this nudity mod:/

Some mods don't have an .esp part. only meshes or textures. Those will not show in the data list - only esps show. Unless the eye candy (one of those with no esp) is the OMOD version, you will not be able to remove it unless you go into the actual textures and meshes folders and track it down. The OMOD version will show in your OMOD list and can be easily removed and reinstalled at any time.
