Modding > playing?

First of all: English is not my first language. I do not intend to be rude/offensive.

OK, I'm pretty sure such a thread has been started here before. But I couldn't find it anyway.

Oblivion has the advantage of being extremely customizable, while being pretty weak on its own. So, this is my point:

Are you a modder? Have you been tweaking the game to extensive detail? Playing around with the CS, Nifskope, Blender/Max, Gimp/Photoshop? But when was the the last time you actually played the game (like, 5 hours w/o interruption)?

I have projects of my own. Some of them I want to share with the public (such as this), others I don't. But, regardless, even when I have the time and no motivation to mod, I hardly ever find myself actually playing Oblivion. Maybe it's because I want to play the game with my projects finalized and implemented. Maybe I feel like the game is incomplete for me without my own stuff in it. And, if that is the case, then that means that the vanilla game itself is pretty much... unappealing. I think Oblivion w/o mods is a dead/unplayable game (I pity XBOX users).

I know there are lots of modders out here... So I want to know: What do you do more frequently? Modding or playing the game?

For me modding is unequalled fun and satisfaction. 5 hours of modding are more satisfying for me than 3 hour of playing the game.

Tell me what your opinions are!

I have not played for an hour continuously in the last 6 months. I see something I want to change and load up the CS. Then several hours testing and it's bed time. That's on a good night when there are no trolls on the board to deal with or people needing help.

I so, totally, understand that. I've done that a few times myself...

A few days ago I spent about five hours on installing FCOM trying not to kill Oblivion. I haven't played an hour yet.

But at least I didn't have to deal with trolls.

I actually spent like 500+ (I checked that number; It's realistic.) hours on my body replacer (over a year or so), and I have accomplished only one single play-through of Oblivion since then.

(Baldur's Gate 2, in comparison, I have completed like ten times in that time. Best game ever.)

Frankly, modding is still more fun to me than playing the game. Sometimes I wonder why I'm even tormenting myself this way...

My last actual saved game was from back in June of 08. All of the playing I've done since then, and even somewhat before has been mostly play testing. This is despite the fact that the character has gone fugly from being a vampire, and I've been meaning to go and change race, or just undo the vampirism for the better part of the last 9 months. So, yeah.

I mod WAY more than i play. Matter of fact, that IS my play. Oh i started out as: Oblivion, beautiful, but lacked morrowinds story line. Lacked the wonder of strongholds. After all what is a pittly little house compared to THOSE. So i would make my own. Well, then it was like the textures arent good enough. New textures. I change this, add that. It exploded and i had more fun modding than playing. Since i reinstalled oblivion on my new computer (which has been a little while) and i didnt keep my old chars. I do not have a single character over the level of 2. and those guys are strictly play testers. Matter of fact i have 3 saved games files.

I mod my nights away, alienating my wife and leaving my daughter to wonder where her father is....
