hello I have issue with it seeing the chargen but not combining them. so my hair mods and bidelles pn and spider cat eyes don't work, I have deleted all the chargen and reinstalled the selected mods chargen but it only lets one hair mode work Antos. I admit to having installed all the hair mods as I love to personalize my characters. Am I doing something wrong? O yes I have Da2 elves installed and temps fereldon elves as well. thanks so much please help im still a pc noob :(

(Didn't realize you're a Dragon Age modding n00b! :laugh: )

OK, here's the basics of the "Character Creator" (CC) process and the "Character Generator Morph Configuration" (chargenmorphcfg.xml, also called the "cgmc.xml") file so that you can understand what's going on and what you have to do:

1. The CC uses three different elements to create every face:

  • The model (also called the "skeleton", or the "mesh".)
    Responsible for things like head shape, cheek width, hair style, nose size, etc.
  • The texture (also called the "skin") that put the top layer over the model.
    Responsible for the hair colour, complexion, make-up, etc.
  • The cgmc.xml file which maps the CC slider positions to the exact model and texture settings out of all the ones available.

2. The game can use many models and textures, but can only use a single cgmc.xml file at a time.

3. Every CC mod has to provide its own cgmc.xml (usually containing only the lines that apply to the specific mod) so that its contents can be mapped to the sliders.

4. If you are using more than one CC mod, you have to merge all the mods' cgmc.xml files into the single one the game can use. Otherwise you'll overwrite the one you had with the one for the last mod you installed.

5. While it is perfectly possible to edit the cgmc.xml file by-hand, (any .xml editor, or even a text editor can do it) it is very easy to make a mistake when you're dealing with several different mods and potentially dozens of lines.

6. Because it's so easy to mess things up when using more than a couple of CC mods, many people (myself included) use Terrra_Ex's outstanding utility program "CharGenMorph Compiler" to handle this chore for us.

 

There are three different types of "face" files involved in the game:

  • A plain ".mor" ("morph") file, which is (almost) impossible to edit directly, and is the final result of the CC process,
    and what you see in-game for both your characer and NPCs.
  • A ".mop" ("morph preset") for use in the CC, and;
  • A ".mrh", which is the result of using the Toolset to create a custom face and which can be saved, shared, and further edited.
    A ".mrh" file can be exported as either a ".mor" or a ".mop".

When you get done making a custom face using the CC, Dragon Age: Origins only saves the ".mor" for your Warden. Without jumping through some major hoops, there is no way to change your Warden's face later. Dragon Age 2 saves the data as both a ".mor" and a ".mop", so you can go back and change your appearance after you start the game. (See: The Mirror of Transformation.)
