Paarthurnax - Do I have a choice here?

That's the one thing that bugged me about the Blades. They assume every dragon is evil, even those who have spent centuries trying to repent for their deeds. Parthuurnax spent thousands of years trying to be someone who's better and has pretty much became a good guy. But just because he's a dragon, Delphine gets all rage mode and asks, or rather tries to force, the Dovahkiin to kill him. Does she realize she's talking to someone who could obliderate her with a mere whisper?

I dunno, even the "ally" dragons in the game seem somewhat evil. Durnehviir became what he is through wanting power to become more powerful than his brethren; Odahviing simply follows whoever proves to be most powerful; Paarthurnax decides, after Alduin is defeated, to force his Way of the Voice upon all the remaining dragons.

You can't freaking win.

That's not to say that the dragons are all evil to the core and want nothing but EEEEEVIL in the world, but they're not exactly "good guys".

They just have a different set of morality. An cockroach would think humans are evil for trying to kill him everytime he is seen for (to him) no apparent reason.

IMO Paarthurnax forcing the Way on other dragons is a good thing, as it would help dragons co-exist with humans.

That's kinda like saying the countries that force one religion/belief on its people is a good thing. Didn't a bunch of British immigrate to North America for a similar reason and cause a war? :P

I foresee Paarthunax's intentions causing great strain within the remaining dragons, a war, even, perhaps. I can't see any good coming of it. Just... Paarthurnax having sat on that broken word wall and guided the Dragonborn towards killing Alduin and not himself so he could take Alduin's place and do... the same thing he did.

I considered that a possibility but still couldn't end his life. If it is his aim to replace Alduin I'm fine with that and if it starts a war among dragons, I'm fine with that as long as such a war does not spill into us folks living on the ground.

  • 4 weeks later...

Odahviing's comment about the "tyranny of the Way" should not be taken as an indication that Paarthurnax was going to use force to impose it. The Way forbids the use of the Voice for domination and conquest, so it seems unlikely that Paarthurnax had any such intention. That would be as contradictory as destroying a village to save it. The impression that I got was that he meant to spread the message as an evangelist or missionary. Paarth even admitted that the others might not listen, but he was determined that they would at least hear. Where's the force in that?

Odahviing, wanting to go his own way and make his own rules, probably considered any set of external rules or strictures as tyrannical, even if accepted voluntarily.
