Transfering Oblivion content to Fallout 3

I already successfully imported and utilized content involving static objects (files lacking animation) and to some degree files dealing with armor. But I hit a snag, I can't seem to get Oblivion's animation files to work for fallout 3. Oblivion's kf files seem to be a lower version or different version at any rate than the animation files utilized by Fallout 3, and I need a solution like a program that could update the kf files to make them compatible With Fallout 3, I would greatly appreciate any assistance anyone could offer.

The Fo3 skeleton has the thumb bones renamed from what they were named in Oblivon. This is going to bork any attempt at direct animation reuse. There's also the fact that Oblivion's skel has a different default arm position than FO3's, so telling the arm bone to rotate 10 degrees is going to get a different-looking result (possibly a scary one).

And that's totally aside from any possible differences in Fallout 3's .kf format (I'm not aware of any, just saying there might be some).

A place to start would be going through a .kf from Oblivion and renaming the three thumb bones wherever it refers to them, although I'm not sure if that's possible in NifSkope or would require a text editor. It might also be necessary to delete anim info from a default FO3 animation and paste the Ob info over after that. Even if the resultant file worked, however, there would still be the upper arm rotation to consider.

Frankly I think it would be easier to just create new anims in Blender or Max...

i am going to try to make a tutorial so Other people can Transfer Oblivion content that has no Animation to Fallout 3. still working on the Animation Problem can`t make Creatures work yet.

I was going to ask on these forums how much effort it is to transfer, say, custom armor/clothing from Oblivion into Fallout 3, but then I found this post. Any insights you have would be much appreciated!

It's going to take some work.

You'll have to reshape and rerig the outfit in Blender or Max so it fits a Fallout 3 skeleton and/or one of the available Fallout 3 bodies.

I transferred a type of armor from oblivion to fallout 3, but when I wear it in G.E.C.K, the armor looks like the like it did in Oblivion, but it looks skewed. This problem is probably the result of the animation glitches already mentioned above, but how I transferred the objects and armor from oblivion to fallout 3 was by using the following programs:

Fallout3 - Garden of Eden Creation Kit.exe ; Needed to import content in to the game

nifskope-1.0.19.4615-windows.exe ; Needed to change the .dds file path

blender-2.48-windows.exe ; Needed to make the Nif Files from Oblivion compatible With Fallout 3

python-2.5.4.exe ; Needed so you can install PyFFI-py2.5-1.2.4-windows.exe

PyFFI-py2.5-1.2.4-windows.exe ; Needed so you can install blender_nif_scripts-2.4.6-windows.exe

blender_nif_scripts-2.4.6-windows.exe ; Needed So You Can Import and export nif File on blender

dotnetfx.exe ; Needed so you can install dotnetfx.exe

dotnetfx3setup.exe ; Needed so you can install dotnetfx35setup.exe

dotnetfx35setup.exe ; Needed so you can install fomm_0_9_13-640.exe

fomm_0_9_13-640.exe ; Needed for Extracting Meshes and Textures

Meshe files=Nif

Texture files=dds

Extract the meshes and the textures linked to those meshes from fallout using fallout mod manager and once you installed all of the Python programs and blender NIF scripts you should be able to import and export NIF files. Import the mesh file you wanted to import into oblivion and then export it as a fallout NIF file and then use NIF scope to change the texture paths of that NIF file and then use the G.E.C.K. and load the mesh files into the game. I would like to apologize if anyone finds these instructions a bit vague.

  • 1 year later...

Thats good to know all of this. I want to transfer some armor from Fo3 to Oblivion. I found a nice armor that call's "Dark_Maggots Chinese Stealth Armor Retexture".

It's a very nice armor to use in Oblivion.

But what I don't know is how do I transfer it?

I'm new, but I like to have some new modern armor.

So who can help me out here.

Greetings WFG
