UltravioletVal19
Hello I recently upgraded my video card from a Radeon RX 580 to a Radeon RX 6800. I had a fairly stable mod list with relatively few CTD's that has been stable since mid 2020. But now ever since the upgrade I constantly get CTD's, while out in the world or upon exiting a building, not inside a building. Ive tried deleting SkyrimPrefs.ini from both the vanilla folder and my Mod Organizer2 folder then launching the game, in order to get the game to recognize the new hardware but this unfortunately has not yielded the results I'd hoped for. The only other things that I can think of is deleting my ENB and reinstalling it and maybe redoing my DynDOLOD, but I'm not keen on doing these unless it really will fix the issue. I'm not 100% sure what to do next and could really use some help/guidance so I don't have to end up rebuilding everything from scratch!!! I took the time to read each mod description and work through, then back through, my mod list, check it with LOOT fix the errors and fix any errors listed on MO2, plus all the YouTube vids Ive watched during that time, it took me several months to complete successfully. I've put a massive amount of time into ironing out all the bugs and crashes so that I could enjoy a "relatively crash free Bethesda game" when I was initially building the mod list so any advise would be greatly appreciated! Ive attached my plugins and also some crash reports that may help you to help me? I hope lol Thanks for your time and assistance! 7531Leonidas
Just a quick look, you only have 16 GB on your machine, and your 6800 has 8, doesn't it? You have a lot of visual stuff going on, and the new card is probably doing much more than the old one. I saw notes on shaders and textures in your crash logs, so maybe it is just that your machine is having to swap out too much for the graphics. Maybe you should try to back off on your card's settings for Skyrim, run around in game for awhile, and see if it helps. You can use Skyrim Performance Monitor to track a lot of info on how your CPU, GPU, and memory are used in the game. I went crazy on detail w/Dyndolod in my last set-up, and with a lot of texture/landscape mods, and it is not unusual for my machine to have 16+ GB stored in the system RAM after just an hour or so (I splurged on 64 GB when I built my system), as recorded by the performance monitor. You may just be forcing your system to swap cached memory too much, and stuff gets jammed up/lost in the process. I hope that someone better versed in the crash logs comes along to help. UltravioletVal19
@7531Leonidas Thanks for responding! The RX 580 was 8GB and it only had a little stutter when I was around the College of Winterhold. The RX 6800 is a 16 GB graphics card so I'd guess It would be able to power through it especially since I was able to use the 580 for two years without much issue. My RAM does spike sometimes but it normally doesn't go beyond 14GB and I make sure that as many of the processes on my comp as possible are closed down while I'm playing. I'll definitely look into the Skyrim Performance Monitor it might help me diagnose the situation better. Thanks for the help!
7531Leonidas
Two more guesses - Have you checked to make sure that your card is fully seated and locked down? I had some weirdness some years ago, and it turned out that one of the locking dogs wasn't fully seated. Your 6800 I am sure is a good bit heavier than the 580. If you pull it, you should probably blast out your machine w/a can of air before you reseat it (stray dust/debris is my second guess). Make sure you have pressed down firmly while you are locking it in. The locking dogs on mine were so tight, I had to really push down to give them room to swing shut.
