Merging Meshes

i am extremely new to this whole mod thing so please be gentle.

i am trying to merge two meshes and i keep managing to crash blender whilst doing it. what i am looking for is either some help or someone to do it for me. from what i have found to read, the process is rather complicated.

anyway, i would like to merge these belts;

with the basic leather armour meshes. this will enbable a charcater to have (i hope) these belts on and still wear other items that are set to the tail slot and amulet spot on the models.

hopefully what i just wrote made sense to someone.

cheers,

@simonp92: blender (is that what you mean?)

@AzirAphale001: i will try that. i will go and look for a tutorial.

do the NIF files contain information about textures as well as meshes? or are they just the meshes?

The nif file will have to contain the path for the texture, which means you may have to play around with the UV map, and/or textures once they are merged into one. Other than that it can also contain information affecting the texture, like the emissive color and such, but most of the settings are overridden by the texture itself.

ok - i have managed to merge the meshes using blender (after lots of reading, some swearing, more reading, prolific swearing etc etc). using nifskope (sp?) i have checked that the paths of the textures are all pointing to real textures. i have created a small mod that simply replaces the standard female leather armour nif with my newly created nif. now my character has no upper body..... o_O

i have either missed a step or done something completely wrong. can i post the data here and get someone to look at it? how should i proceed? any ideas? please :)

this is what the mesh + textures look like in NifSkope (see attachment). however, when i actually point the leather armour to this nif file in a game, the characters appear to have no upper body.....just a head.....and some hands.

i am guessing that i have made a very simple mistake - but i just cannot see it. please help?

Be sure the texture paths are set up properly, and that the texture is actually in a folder within the Data/textures file. Other than that the only thing I can think of is if you are using it for a female it won't show up on a male. Unless you set the nif file for either gender, then you get a very strange looking man.

In Nifskope your texture path will probably read "data/textures/armor/leather" or something similar. To get the file to look correct in-game, you want to delete everything in this line before "textures". Nifskope will default to a grey model, but if the path is correct it will appear as it should in the game. Good luck!

i have now reset all the texture paths and made sure the textures are in oblivion\data\textures. In-game it is still showing as inivisible. This is quite frustrating :wallbash: :confused:

any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....
