We're getting out of the mess now

Hi everyone, I hope you'll be able to help me.

FIRST OF ALL, do not fear about the length of this post. I've got a lot of questions... Then I do not want ONE user to answer ALL of my questions. Please, anyone, you can help a little, I do not want to force you to answer to all.

Let's begin.

Oblivion is modding-friendly, thus we have a looooooooooooooooooooooot of mods. Just look into TES Nexus for a few minutes, see the amount of different mods, for so many different things.

Well then, let's clear and clean it up ^^

And make it UPDATED.

What I hope is we eventually get a thread where mods are "summed up", because for a newcomer the Oblivion modding world (or even for guys like me, who have spent a year trying to get the best mods to finally see that there is much much more to be checked, downloaded, installed, played, enjoyed) it's really hard to get the best mods.

That's what I hope.

What I would like is just a few answers about mods that does interest me.

For those you are willing to join the ambitious project I just introduced, just tell me, we'll try making something. For the others, questions are below =)

One last thing: I am not a "beginner", I already know a lot of mods, I've played a lot on Oblivion, etc. Though, as I've understood many things on my own without help, don't fear advising me on "basic" things.

First, what's the actual "good", "best" texture replacer? I heard a lot about Qarl Textures Pack, but between Redimized, Reduced, or else, I'm a little lost. As I have an overclocked 8800GTS II, I think there won't be any problem with most of the texture replacers mods.

Second, there are mods that change the levelling system. OOO, Francesco's, etc. Adding new monsters, spells, weapons as well, I heard. I've often heard OOO's the best. What do you think about it? Are there "side" versions of those mods, like a "OOO + Monsters", or "Little OOO", or "Francesco Full/Medium" etc? This modding sector is messy as well, admit it.

Third, the UI. Dark UI, BT, well, what's the best? But I recognize, this isn't really important.

About combat mods, I know Deadly Reflex is amazing. Are there others?

What about companions? I can't get a clear answer from TES Nexus search, as it introduces me to thousands companions mod without even telling me how it does work.

For Body Replacer, I know Exnem's a good one, as it is compatible with a lot of other mods.

To finish, let's discuss quests mods. I don't know a thing about them - never got one. What do they do? What are the bests? How do they get installed?

I already know the whole mod-installing process, BSA-problems, etc. OBSE and OMM are installed. But are there new things about "archive invalidation"? What's the best method?

"Best Mod" for you,may not be to my liking.Opinions will differ based on taste, immersion and other factors per person. Frankly I don't like Deadly Reflex myself...see Its not a "best mod" for me!.

Best body mod..well again your preference might not be mine or someone elses. You have the right to state what you like and prefer, but using the term best, is just not true.

I would like answers to some of these q's too, especially the archive invalidation stuff.

I have added lots of companions to my game. Download and use CM Partners 2.0. There are a lot of companion mods based on this mod, the mod names usually start with CM_name, like CM_Aanila, CM_Elizabeth, CM_Raewyn, CM_Tamara,. Be aware that some of these require extra mods, like hair/face packs, body replacers, etc.

You can take an entire party of adventurers with you using CM Partners, and give them different commands like guard, loot, stay, follow, etc. Works really good (althought I'm having trouble with Conan, he keeps attacking EVERYBODY! -I can't fast travel to any town with him without getting into a huge brawl). I had a serious discussion with him back at camp, but he is stubborn!

I'm going to have to try Deadly Reflex.....

Thanks for your answers.

Please mind that I'm not native English-speaking. I have some difficulty with nuances, etc.

So I don't really look for "bests" mods. What I meant was dealing with "finished mods", "full mods", with ones that are stopped, thant aren't working... Because TES Nexus Browser doesn't make any difference. For instance, try to search "Companions" and see what you find: how a newcomer can make any difference between all that is shown to him? Moreover there are hundreds answers to the search...

About the "Top 100", yeah it's great and I used it, but again there isn't all in it: I didn't see Texture replacer mods, for instance.

What I look for is "general recommendation". I don't want to download & install QTP3 if there's a fourth version, or if there's an optimized one, for example.

Well, I'll try from now to avoid using the word "best" because I agree, it doesn't fits at all with what I look for.

Try the Dragon Captions mod updates of Giskards mods. There's 9 or 10 on TES so far with new ones coming soon. Also get Giskards Origin of the Mages guild, the Necromancer, Kvatch Aftermath 7.3, and Elder council Temple of the One from Filefronts Elder Scrolls section. It's the biggest set of interlaced mods that I know of and are lore driven quest mods.
