UndeadDevil
Hey all,Past 6 months I've been fighting with Fallout 3, it constantly crashes within a couple of minutes, sometimes it crashes within 2 seconds of loading!I just finished a complete reinstall of it (No Patches installed nor MODS) and it still crashes within 5 minutes of playing. The ironic thing is, I played Oblivion all the way through without any issues a couple months ago on this machine! (Its the same engine) I've tried every display driver available for Windows 7 (This issue occurs on Windows XP as well for me!), my machine is perfectly fine and has no issues with any other game, my codecs are not the cause (Oblivion wouldn't be fine if it was and fallout3.exe is in ffmpeg do-not-use list) Lowest or Highest Graphics Settings, Windowed Mode, AA on or Off, 1.0 or 1.4, HDR or Bloom.. - Nothing makes the slightest difference! So far I have not managed to complete this game and hitting F5 every 30 seconds is now a Subconcious Habbit for me!!!! Please, has anyone got any ideas? UncleRoe
only one. when you say complete reinstall, did you also delete the main folder in your c:drive? sometimes when you install a game it still leaves the folder with a few files. those might be carried over to each reinstallment and freeze your game. sides that i got nothin. UndeadDevil
I already completely wiped my machine once (Switched from XP to Windows 7 Beta - The issue occurred in XP as well) About to format and install Windows 7 RC, will install Fallout 3 after, but I'm not holding my hopes up. UndeadDevil
No Joy! Fallout 3 is literally the only thing installed! (1.5 + OA + Pitt) Now it crashes to desktop instead of just freezing, and it lasted until I got out of Vault 101, guess thats progress?

Also in your Windows Folder in the Prefetch folder there will be lingering files there from the game that need to be wiped out also. It might help if you pasted your PC specs so someone could view it> How much Ram Memory do you have? Good Luck

Something else you may want to try, Are you familiar with FO3Edit, ,You could have from a mod a file thats been corrupted and you can check it in FO3Edit. Just a suggestion
UndeadDevil
I have no Mods installed, this Windows install was done yesterday and so far other than Firefox + J River Media Centre + VirtualBox nothing is installed on this machine. I haven't even installed a Codec Pack! It seems to be fine until I leave Vault 101! I can't even get to Megaton before it crashes, most times it crashes within a couple seconds but sometimes it does let me get almost half the way there.... However this issue seems to be different now, before it would freeze, now it actually crashes. So guess thats progress, at least now I know what it is! (I think YouPAX Creative Drivers where the cause of the freezing before, as I used the same driver set on XP and Win7, but now using BETA Creative Win7 Drivers) Faulting application name: Fallout3.exe, version: 1.5.0.22, time stamp: 0x49cd1e54Faulting module name: nvd3dum.dll, version: 8.15.11.8172, time stamp: 0x49d524a5Exception code: 0xc0000005 That said, I've also got a couple of these in the logs so maybe not just nVidia.
