Oruboris
Playing at high res with Darnified UI, and my ~ key doesn't seem to do a thing. I looked in the control menus, can't see a command for 'console' linked to anything. I remember in Morrowind it paused the game and opened a window for input, I'm not getting anything like that, and the game doesn't pause. Any insight appreciated... There have been issues with it and the console functions before. Also see if your oblivion.ini in the my games folder has the console enabled. bben46
For some reason beyond my comprehension, Microsoft decided to disable the tilde key (~) when they have infrared turned on. On most desktop computers this is not a problem because they don't have IR capability. However, for laptops and media center desktops, as well as those desktops that do have an infrared receiver/transmitter it is a nuisance. On the media center PC, the simplest fix is to unplug the IR from the PC. The tilde immediately returns to use. On those with an IR that can not be simply unplugged, you will need to go into the control panel to disable IR. On an XP system: Vista will be similarStart>Settings>Control Panelclick on 'System' then the Hardware tab, then the 'Device Manager' Find the infrared portUnder the section labeled 'Device usage' select 'Do not use this Device (disable)'Click on the OK below it. A red x should appear over the IR port on the list of devices. Of course, this will make anything that relies on the IR no longer function until you change it back. Oruboris
Thanks for the help so far: I am running Vista, and un-installing the MS IRhome whatzit lets tilde work in mail and other programs, still doesn't work in-game. How can Microsoft NOT know that so many major games use the tilde as the console button? They either don't know or don't care how the customer uses their product and so are utterly non-responsive to the customer's needs. The natural outcome of a monopoly. I've always been a little afraid of OBSE, dunno why. I don't think I've seen any more horror stories about it than most other major mods. Since I'm near the end of both the Oblion and SI main quests, I'll probably just play on to the end, but will definetly get OBSE and the ring mod next time I play. Thanks again! bben46
OBSE is not a mod. It is a utility program that extends the programming language used to make mods. Almost every major mod and many minor ones require OBSE to work. The stories you have seen rarely have anything to do with OBSE, but with mods that use OBSE. Not OBSEs fault at all. Nearly everyone that uses mods runs OBSE with little or no problem. Calling OBSE a mod is like calling Oblivion a mod for Windows. Picky technical terminology I know.
