RaidersClamoring
So, I accidentalied my entire Windows installation yesterday out of frustration that CK keeps freezing on startup. Worked fine loading it up after brutally assuming ownership of the entire C drive, which, of course, let to enormous problems downstream and I had to reinstall EVERYTHING.So I wonder, anyone know of a more surgical approach to altering permissions to make CK not poop itself on startup? It's already set to admin mode and I'm pretty sure it's permissions, I just don't know which are necessary or advisable to change.
SKKmods
I have used the Fallout4 CK for thousands of hours since it was released on multiple systems and never had to mess with Windows permissions except check "run as administrator" on the shortcut. I don't even have that. (but then, I do have 'admin' rights)
RaidersClamoring
OK, do you get a freeze at approx 25% loaded? It eventually does boot up but I don't like knowing whether it is actually crashing or not.
84Cronos
Which version are you using? The one from the Bethesda Launcher or the one from steam? Did you do a clean wipe of the CK(getting rid of all associates files, ini's etc.)? Did you reinstall it properly?
niston
You could try seeing what it does, or tries to do during startup https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/procmon

Did you do a clean wipe of the CK(getting rid of all associates files, ini's etc.)? Did you reinstall it properly? The Steam one. Bad? I did make a complete reinstall of Windows, keeping no applications or files, so yes.. initially. But after I installed CK again, I ended up uninstalling and installing a second time because I perceived some real or imaginary problem and I didn't want any hitches this time. Should I uninstall/reinstall a third time and properly wipe any lingering traces? What do you recommend doing in one such process? Is there a handy guide somewhere? You could try seeing what it does, or tries to do during startup https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/procmon Thanks Niston, looks like a useful tool. Thanks for the tip.
